Amazon has done a great job creating a community of customers, reviewers, and sellers who give each other feedback and create a dialogue around a product. If you have ever shopped on Amazon, you have undoubtedly referred to the rating and reviews in your purchasing process. It may have been a split second calculation that may not have even registered as a thought, but I’m guessing there’s a 95% chance that you did that.
I may be stating the obvious in reminding you that you look at reviews, but customer reviews are an essential part of the sales process for the Amazon customer. Seeking social proof in a decision, which is exactly what happens when we reference reviews, is simply human nature. As a result, it is in your best interest if you are an Amazon seller to get as many good reviews as possible.
One well-founded assumption that I am making in this post: Amazon values reviews from based on the ranking of the reviewer. Why is this? Because good reviewers have built up a history of writing good reviews that have helped other potential customers. As these reviews have helped others evaluate products and purchase more products from Amazon, of course it is in Amazon’s interest to feature more helpful reviews as much as possible.
