BREXIT: BRITAIN LEAVING EUROPEAN UNION; WHAT'S NEXT
Britain has decided to leave the European Union and many Britainites already refer to the contiguous land countries as Europe which leaves the United Kingdom separate from Europe. Will withdrawing from NATO be next? This would really set up the UK as completely separate from Europe as an organic defense force of NATO but as a partner. This seems to also go along with the way Mr. Trump views NATO, that is as a partner not an organic participant. If the UK and the US withdraw from NATO, the other non-European countries will likely do the same. Where, then, would this leave NATO. They could try to regroup under the leadership of Germany but how much energy and participation will take place by the other European nations is any body's guess. Turkey seems to be going in it's own direction. Both monetary and military contribution from the smaller European countries are already weak. Would they step up to fill the void. It's doubtful.
