Others)” by
Ken Research suggested that the Brazil Agrochemical Market has been increasing due
to the rising population, increasing expenditure on R&D by major companies,
rise in farming income and increasing awareness of agrochemicals among farmers
coupled with rising demand of biopesticides in the country. The market is
expected to register a positive CAGR of 4.9% in terms of sales revenue during
the forecast period 2019P-2025F.
“Increasing Demand for
Bio-Based Agrochemicals coupled with growing population and increasing soybean
production have driven the Brazil Agrochemical Market”
High Adoption of Herbicides: Brazil is the fourth largest
agriculture economy and also the largest exporter of coffee and soybeans in
2018. Brazilian government has mandated the use of pesticides more specifically
herbicides to reduce soil erosion; thereby, preventing the weed impact on the
soil. Herbicides are a preferred choice of farmers in Brazil to control weed
and attain optimum crop production. Therefore, rise in wheat, soy, and cereals
production also forces the adoption of herbicides among the consumers. The
increase in adoption of glyphosate in Brazil due to rise in adoption of
glyphosate-resistant soybeans is one of the major growth drivers of the
economy.
Growing Demand for Bio-Based
Agrochemicals: The demand for biopesticides and
biocompatible products to control pests, diseases and weeds has been increasing
in Brazil in recent years, with increases in concern about the environment and
contamination of food with synthetic chemical pesticides. There are currently (as
o 30th November 2019) 166 commercial bio pesticides products
approved in Brazil with 30 biological control assets. Furthermore, there are
several new active ingredients for bio insecticides, which were launched by
various companies contributing to the growth of the market.
Adoption of GM Technology: Brazil is the leading producer of GM
(Genetically modified) crops in Latin America, with three commercialized crops:
soybean, maize and cotton and is the second largest producer of biotech crops
in the world, next to the US, planting 50.2 million hectares of biotech crops
in 2017. The value of the GM seed market at the ex-manufacturer level in Brazil
was USD 3.8 billion in 2017. Brazil has expanded the area cultivated with
genetically modified (GM) crops by 1.1 million hectares in 2018. With the
adoption of GM technology, the adoption of these crops has fastened up the use
of pesticides due to rise of superweeds and the increase in difficulty to kill
insects.
