Inexperienced customers will be quick to select a brand new bike over a used one. However, the reality is not so straightforward. The right choice for an individual customer is really down to what they are looking for in a bike. Bases on your personal preference, the best bike can either be a brand new one or a used one. So there is no clear answer to that question as it turns out.

However, what can be done with the issue of brand new motorbikes vs. second hand motorbikes is a comparison of what each category can bring to the table which will provide adequate information for a buyer to decide which one is better. Let us begin by talking about the brand new category.

Brand New

First off, a brand new bike does come off with its own sense of presence. There is always that initial fizz that a customer gets when taking it out for the very first time and experiencing it as good as it will ever be for the rest of its life. And of course, it is a bike that is keeping up with the times, featuring latest technology, styling and performance figures. If there happens to be something amiss, there is the manufacturer’s warranty to back you up.

What are the drawbacks though? Being brand new, it will come at a handsome price, which means it will also be a little expensive to insure. That special feeling you get after riding it for the first time will only last for so long. Eventually, you might dial down your emotions and start picking at a few faults and be disappointed. Sometimes, you may find yourself having to make constant adjustments to suit the bike to your personal riding style.

Second Hand

So what about second hand bikes then? For starters, you will find they sell for a whole lot less than when they were brand new. Even if the components still work well with no problems, the depreciation rate is quite high, so you stand every chance of making a good deal on your purchase. If there are some minor improvements to be made, you should be able to mend them on a low budget. However, it is important to stay well informed before buying a used bike. There is always that sleazy salesman who fails to mention every single detail worth mentioning in the information and will end up selling less of a bike and more of a mechanical nightmare. Moreover, you are unlikely to find a used bike that comes with the warranty of the original manufacturer. So it is important stay vigilant on the details and history of the bike before selecting it.

As we have shown above, the decision is not clear cut. It really is about what you are personally looking for and how much of working knowledge you have motorbikes and the market that sells them. As long as you know what you want and have some thorough information to refer, you will be able to make the best choice.
