Braces or Invisalign - Which is Right for Me?
by Ador Talukdar A Great WriterIf your teeth are crooked or misaligned, then you may
want to consider visiting a cosmetic dentist to have the problem fixed. It is
possible to use braces or Invisalign ("invisible" braces) to fix most overbites, underbites or mild
misalignments with one of these options if you are an adult or a teenager. Most
good dentists are able to offer both types of braces as a solution, but which
one is the right choice for you?
Metal
Braces
Although fixed
metal braces are more noticeable that Invisalign braces, they are available in
a range of colors, which can appeal to a lot of children and teens. In general,
metal braces tend to be less expensive than Invisalign, so they are a great
choice for people who have a smaller budget available to them.
Some people who choose these braces find that they are
quite uncomfortable when they are first put in. In order for them to work, the
mechanism of the piece has to be adjusted every 6 weeks or thereabouts by a
professional dentist, which can mean regular trips to the dentist. Wearers may
also experience a small amount of discomfort following each adjustment. Because
these braces are permanently adhered to the teeth during the realignment
process, they can cause slight discoloration, which may remain even after the
braces are removed.
Invisalign
aligner braces
These clear plastic braces are created for the
individual based on dental mapping techniques, which help to forecast the best
way for the teeth to move. They are removable and can be taken out to be
cleaned. They should be removed when eating. Rather than having these braces
adjusted as the teeth move, new Invislign aligners are issued to the patient
every few months. As well as helping to move the teeth into their desired
position, new aligners also help the patient to maintain good hygiene
levels. The most desirable quality of
Invisalign braces is that they are nearly invisible, so most people will not
know that you are using them.
In most cases, Invisalign braces will be more
expensive than fixed metal braces, although payment plans are available from
most dentists to help patients to spread out the cost. Because they are not
worn all of the time, this type of brace can also take longer to work, and
therefore the patient will have to wear braces for a longer length of time
overall.
