What is a Cordless Hammer Drill?

Hammer drill is the advanced form of standard electric drill with hammering action in it. It can also be called as rotary hammer. Hammer drill provides rapid, strong hammer thrust that can perform tasks and a person has to apply less effort to get a quicker drill. These type of drills are occasionally powered electrically and progressively batteries supply power to them. Basically hammer drills are used to make holes in masonry, stones, concrete footings and concrete floors for pin wall framing.

1. Cordless Hammer Drill

Hammer drills can be corded or cordless. Corded hammer drills are those which are directly attached with some electrical power source while cordless hammer drills are those which are powered by some battery. The hammering action is recorded as BPM (Blows per Minute) due to its rapid thrust. The individual blow is not that powerful to dig a hole in concrete wall but a series of continuous blows is enough strong to dig a hole in the concrete wall. The battery used in the cordless hammer drill is usually rechargeable. In early cordless hammer drills, battery life is 7.2V but as time passed life of the battery starts to increase like 18V, 24V, 28V etc. The nickel-cadmium battery were used in cordless hammer drill which are also used worldwide but there is a significant disadvantage of using this type of battery and that disadvantage is its self-discharging and limited life-time. So, instead of using nickel-cadmium battery, lithium-ion battery is preferred which has long life-time as compared to Ni-Cd battery.

2. Types of Cordless Hammer Drill

There are many types of cordless hammer drills. Some are designed to do heavy work like in construction. Some are the combination of drill with hammering action and driver function. But if you want an industrial product then Dewalt DC970K-2 is the best product. The most recommended model of cordless hammer drill is Makita XPH06Z 18 Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless. It weighs only 4 pounds and small enough to work in confined spaces. The main thing of it due to which it is liked is the useful battery gauge which shows the current battery life and it hardly takes one hour to recharge its battery. So the worker should have one or two extra battery packets so that he will continue his work instead of waiting one hour for the battery.

3. Advantages of Cordless Hammer Drill

Some advantages of the cordless hammer drill are as follows:

It can do the hammer action and driver function at the same time.

There is no need of hammer if you have this drill.

As mentioned above it weighs very light so it prevents arm fatigue.

There is no need of having a wire through which power can be supplied to it due to rechargeable batteries of lithium-ion having long life-time.

And most important it saves your time.
