BMW X6 – The Coupe SUV For Your Driving Pleasure

The BMW X6 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV that was unveiled in 2008 with good ground clearance, large wheels, all-wheel-drive, and a spacious interior with a sloping roof like coupes. 


E71

The first-generation BMW X6 was first introduced in 2007 with a stylish four-door, four seats, an elegant roofline, and high-performance models. The exterior is bold and bulgy with the boot lid stands at the height of an adult’s chest. The cabin takes its styling from the BMW X5 with a standard iDrive infotainment system including an LCD display, the front seats set high, and two rear bucket seats that can comfortably accommodate medium-sized adults.

The xDrive35i X6 came fitted with a twin-turbo 3.0L inline-6 petrol engine with 300 hp, or the xDrive50i X6 with a twin-turbo 4.4L V-8 petrol with 400 hp, and the xDrive35d X6 with a twin-turbo 3.0L inline-6 diesel engine with 285 hp as options paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.


In 2009, the X6 M high-performance model was released with a 4.4L V8 petrol engine twin-scroll twin-turbo system and the Cylinder-bank Comprehensive Manifold with 547 hp mated with a 6-speed M Sports automatic transmission with aluminum paddle shifters. Accelerating from 0–100 km/h in 4.7 seconds with available features including a sports steering wheel, a carbon fiber spoiler, black kidney grilles, and M rims.


E72

In late 2009, BMW released the facelifted version of the X6, an ActiveHybrid version of the X6 (E72). The ActiveHybrid  X6 had its own unique features, such as the prominent Powerdome hood lid, “ActiveHybrid” badges, 19-inch alloy wheels, Bluewater metallic paint, and a rear bench seat that could accommodate three passengers. The hybrid has three drive modes: Electric power, combustion engine, or a combination of the two.

The BMW ActiveHybrid X6 is powered by a twin-turbo 4.4L V8 power unit with 402 hp and two electric motors with 90 hp and 84 hp respectively. The combined output is 479 hp mated with a 7-speed automatic or 7-speed Two-mode Active ECVT transmission.


F16


The second generation (F16) of the BMW X6 was revealed in 2014 and grew by 3 cm in length, 2.5 cm in width, and 0.3 cm in height. The F16 has an aggressive and muscular, slightly larger, wider, and meaner look. It featured a bigger kidney grille, xenon headlights, and adaptive LED lights. The cabin is more spacious with leather upholstery, navigation system with a 10.2-inch display,  front and rear parking sensors, electrically adjusted heated front seats, gearshift paddles, and driver assistance systems. Higher models added upgraded entertainment, soft-close doors, an electric glass sunroof, and alloy and gloss black highlights, while the M Sport has sports seats, adaptive cruise control, sportier exterior styling, and adaptive suspension. 


The F16 came fitted with turbocharged 3.0L (xDrive30d) inline-6 diesel engine, the turbocharged 3.0L (xDrive35i) inline-6 petrol engine, the twin-turbo 4.4L (xDrive50i) V8 petrol engine, and the tri-turbo 3.0L (xDrive50d). The X6 M was fitted with a twin-turbo 4.4L V8 petrol engine mated with an eight-speed automatic transmission.


2020 (G06)

The third generation (G06) was unveiled in 2019 with a much bolder and meaner appearance. It has some bling-bling and is fitted with 22-inch rims and lights in the snout as an option. The interior is well-equipped with standard features such as the BMW Live Cockpit Professional with a 12.3-inch touchscreen for the latest iDrive 7.0 infotainment system, and the other for the digital instrument cluster. Other features include Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, heated front seats, leather upholstery, ambient lighting, and more. The cargo area has now 580 liters and can extend to 1530 liters by split-folding the 40/40/40 rear seats. 

The G06 X6 comes fitted with turbocharged petrol and diesel engines, ranging from 3.0L inline-6 petrol with 335 hp (sDrive40i) and optional engine Bi-turbo 4.4L V8 petrol engine with 523 hp (M50i). The X6 M produces 625 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque and can accelerate from 0 – 100 kph in 3.8 seconds.
