BMW X4 – The Modern and Fun Sports Activity Vehicle

The BMW X4 is a compact luxury crossover SUV produced in 2014 by the German automobile company BMW. The X4 is currently in its second generation and marketed as a sports activity coupe (SAC) with features and a roofline like a standard two-door coupe.

First Generation

The first generation BMW X4 (F26) was revealed in 2014 with xLine or M Sport trims with a coupe-like low arched roof and dynamic “signature swage line” character lines split in two on both sides. The front end of the X4 features a set of wide and deep air vents, a set of twin round headlight units that spread to the grille, a set of LED fog lamps, a skid plate, and the signature kidney grilles. The M Sport trim had optional parts including a sports steering wheel, Aluminium pedals, carbon fiber mirrors, black kidney grilles, M rims, and a carbon fiber spoiler.

The X4 came with the iDrive infotainment system with Bluetooth, a USB port, and satellite radio as well as Harman Kardon audio system.

The X4 is powered by optional turbocharged and twin-turbocharged engines with xDrive all-wheel drive as standard. The xDrive20i and xDrive28i fitted with 2.0L petrol engine, the 3.0L (xDrive35i) inline-6 petrol engine with 300hp, the 2.0L (xDrive20d) diesel engine with 190 hp, the 3.0L inline-6 (xDrive30d and xDrive35d) diesel engine with 258 hp and 310 hp. Engines are mated with an 8-speed automatic transmission and a 6-speed manual as an option.

Second Generation

The second-generation BMW X4 (G02) was introduced in 2018 with about 3.2-inches longer, 1.5-inch wider, 2.0-inches taller, and its wheelbase grew by 2.0-inches compared to the F26 X4. The exterior features a more prominent kidney grille at the front and new taillights at the rear.

The cabin is spacious with a wide range of arrangements on the front seats for a more comfortable driving position. The touchscreen infotainment and climate controls are easily accessible, as well as the iDrive dial controller which is also within reach. Standard features include a 10.3-inch touchscreen with free Apple CarPlay for one year and an optional head-up display. Safety features include adaptive cruise control, active lane control, blind-spot monitors, and forward-collision warnings with automatic emergency braking.

Optional models come with a turbocharged 2.0L (xDrive20d) inline-4 diesel engine with 190 hp and the turbocharged and twin-turbo 3.0L (xDrive30d and xDriveM40d) inline-6 diesel engine with 286 hp and 340 hp.
