Birla Mandir Mathura: How to Reach Gita Mandir

Located about 6.5 km from the Mathura intersection on the outskirts of Mathura on the Vrindavan - Mathura Road is the famous Birla Mandir, also known by the name of Gita Mandir. It's a prominent Hindu pilgrimage site frequented by pilgrims and tourists alike. The shrine is devoted to Lord Lakshmi Narayan. The architecture of this temple speaks of its own magnificence and the exquisite carvings and paintings of its grandeur.

Jugal Kishore Birla built the Mathura Birla Mandir in memory of his parents along with the entire Bhagavad Gita which is inscribed on the columns of the temple. This large temple is constructed of red sandstone and is regarded as a product of skilled craftsmanship. The marble walls hold paintings of gods and goddesses. The entire area of Gita Mandir is preserved nicely to serve a serene ambiance to the pilgrims.

Birla Mandir Complex

The sanctum space enshrines Radha Krishna, and there are two extra sanctum chambers enshrine Lakshmi Narayan and Ram - Sita. The Mathura Birla Mandir complex also houses Lord Krishna's chariot and a towering Gita Stambh which has carvings of Bhagavad Gita. Within the premises of this temple, there is a small temple with all the presiding deity as Lord Hanuman. Right opposite to the main sanctum sits the vehicle of Lord Vishnu, Garuda with folded palms.

How to Reach Gita Mandir

Located 5 km from the city center, the Birla Mandir could be visited en route Vrindavan. In Mathura, one may take a government or private bus to visit the temple. The regular tempos and auto-rickshaws are also handy and easily found. There are buses running from Mathura to Vrindavan from the bus stand.
