Bilateral Trade Agreement Between The United States And India On Fruit Export & Import

With the recent agreement between both the countries, the US has agreed to the imports of Indian fruits trade which includes fruits such as Pomegranates and mangoes whereas India imports products such as alfalfa hay, pork, and cherries from the US.

 

The agreement between both countries was signed in a meeting held recently between Piyush Goyal (Commerce Minister) and Katherine Tai (Office of the United States Trade Representative) on 23rd Nov 2021.

 

It was the first time in four years, the representative of the United States Tai co-chaired the 12th ministerial-level meeting with Indian commerce minister MR. Piyush Goyal on US-India Trade Policy Forum (TPF).

 

A joint statement is issued by both the countries on the Trade Policy Forum which reads, for irradiation of both the fruits to India authorities and to facilitate the export of pomegranates and mangoes from India, the US would finalize the transfer.

 

To allow the import of alfalfa hay and cherries from the US for animal feed into India, India is looking to finalize the phytosanitary certification process.

 

In addition, India gave the green flag to the US export of pork and pork products in the recent agreement. On the other hand, the US approved India's export of table grapes in the country.
