Bharathidasan University (BDU) is one of the largest and prestigious state universities in the country. The University is supported by UGC or University Grants Commission of India. It was formed in the year 1942 in the city of Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu state, India. The name of the University was derived from the name of the great revolutionary Tamil Poet, Bharathidasan. There are 34 Departments, 15 Government funded & Affiliated colleges and 10 constituent colleges. All the colleges that are affiliated with the University are spread over the following districts:
