2015 is anticipated to be an amazing year for music. In between the new releases of some of hip hop’s best names and the hip hop festival in Atlanta, there’s a lot to look forward to this year. Amongst these Titans, there are a few musical geniuses who have been making waves, creating an impact in the music world.

Here are some of the best upcoming hip hop artists this year:  

     1. The Roots

Formed in 1987, The Roots are an American band renowned for their jazzy and eclectic approach to hip hop. The band has released 10 studio albums to date, along with collaborated albums, recordings, and live shows with numerous artists. Needless to say, The Roots are no newbie in the music industry. They served as the house band on NBC's Late Night with Jimmy Fallon from 2009 all through 2014. Furthermore, they’ve been ranked among the top 10 best bands in a countdown of the 25 Best Hip-Hop Groups of All-Time. Critically acclaimed, the band is also a common mention on the Billboards.       2. A$AP Rocky

 A$AP Rocky is another American rapper originally from the Big Apple. His musical career began as a member of the hip hop bend ASAP Mob. In 2011, he released his debut mixtape named, Live. Love. ASAP, that was critically acclaimed. Recognizing the amazing talents of this young artist, Polo Grounds Music, RCA Records, and Sony Music Entertainment approached him to sign a record deal.  Recording his debut album that was released in 2013, A$AP Rocky was so successful, ranking number one on the Billboard 200.       3. Ms. Lauryn Hill

Singer, songwriter, rapper, producer, and actress – Hill has evolved as a multi-talented star over the years. Back in the 90’s, we were all too familiar with her glorious performance in Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit where she played supporting role with Whoopi Goldberg in main role. Since then, Ms. Lauryn Hill has been a member of the Fugees, released her solo album, The Miseducation of Ms. Lauryn Hill, all the while continuing her illustrious career in Hollywood. Her neo soul approach to music was so loved that her album debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200, selling approximately eight million copies. Today, Ms. Lauryn Hill is back, with some added inspiration in her style of music.

 

4.    4.  SZA

Introducing Hazel Williams, but let’s just call her by her stage name, SZA, that we’ve learned to love so much. Singer, song-writer with a neo-soul approach to music, this young and talented artist has been ruffling some serious feathers in the music industry. In 2013, she signed a contract with Record label, Top Dawg Entertainment. In 2014, she released her third EP, and first retail release.  Beautifully combining raw alternative R&B, with elements of soul, an edge of hip hop, her fans have described her lyrics as heart touching, honest and unraveling.

5.     Other Big Names To Watch Out For

Janelle Monae, the record producer whose music got her six Grammy Award nominations. She has her own studio album out that reached the top 17 spot on the Billboard 200. Eightball & MJG, Wale and Scarface are more people you need to watch out this year!
