They work on most Pixel devices; however, some features require the latest Android update to work efficiently. We recommend you to update your OS so that you can enjoy using these tips.
Quickly Turn on the Camera
While opening up the device and finding up the camera app to capture a snap, you may miss a snap of a precious moment. This happens with every one of us.
The Pixel device comes pre-built with a setting that, when triggered, will open the camera. You can capture a snap by double-pressing your device’s power/lock button. It will immediately open up your device’s camera no matter whether you are on the lock screen, browsing, or using an app. Your screen will get acquired by the camera of your device. This will save a couple of seconds, and you would be able to capture the shot or start video recording instantly.
You need to go to the Settings. Then click on “System” and then on “Gestures” and then enable “Jump to camera” and press save.
Automatically Identify the Songs
With this trick’s help, you can see which song is playing in the surroundings without any need to open any app or even unlock your device. This feature works offline, which is one of the best things about this feature.
To enable this feature:
- You need to go to the “Settings.”
- Then, click on “Sound.”
- Then press “Now Playing,” and all the songs will get displayed on both the notification pulls down and lock screen.
This trick, however, cannot be accessed on the original Pixel 2016.
Open Google Assistant with Just a Squeeze
Yes, you heard that right. You can trigger Google Assistant with just a squeeze.
Just squeeze the bottom half of the device to make a reminder, send a message, look up for something, or check the weather. To enable this feature:
- Go to the “Settings” and click on “System.”
- Then press “Gestures” and click on “Active Edge,” and your feature will get enabled.
- Meanwhile, screen sensitivity can also be adjusted to make it work when your screen isn’t on.
This feature is not supported by the original Pixel as the squeeze functionality arrived with Pixel 2.
Get Live Captions for the Desired Audio
You can get real-time captions for your audios with the help of Live Caption. Except for the phone calls, music, and VoIP, this feature works with everything. You can use it for archived videos, live broadcasts, podcasts, and more.
You can enable Live Caption on your Pixel device from Settings. You need to go to your device’s Accessibility settings and then on Live Caption and toggle it on.
This feature was introduced on Android 10, so it is available only for newer devices like Pixel 2 and more; however, it is exceptional for some of the other Android devices.
Screen Your Incoming Calls Automatically
The Pixel devices offer a feature named “Call Screen.” This feature automatically answers phone calls on your behalf. You can see the real-time conversation between Google Assistant and the person on the other side if you have enabled this feature for your incoming calls.
It can also silently decline the spam calls without disturbing you. Also, you can set the calls answering on a priority basis.
To enable this feature, you need to:
- Open the Phone app.
- Go to the “Settings” option from the top-right menu, which opens up by clicking the three dots.
- Then press on “Spam” and click on the Call Screen.
- Select the “Call Screen” feature for all the options present there.
