Benefits of Effective Education Plan for Students & Teachers

by Diksha Sharma Blogger and writer

Effectively managing a classroom is one of the most crucial challenges that all teachers face. A classroom management plan is a document with ground rules and strategies for teachers when students break the rules or misbehave. If students know what the rules are and the consequences they will face if they disobey those rules, they will be more disciplined.

A classroom program that works becomes a tool that helps establish a pleasant environment in classrooms. An effective program teaches the students to be accountable for their behaviour. It makes them realize that they are responsible for learning and listening to what the teacher teaches, and misbehavior takes away their chances of improvement.

To write an effective plan, the teachers need to know what will be their philosophy of classroom management, such as:

  • About students

  • Role as a teacher

  • The physical and emotional environment

  • Management of the classroom

Creating a philosophy of motivation will help teachers determine what they want in the classroom and what they don’t want, how to explain it to the students, how to reward appropriate behaviour, and how to handle an unexpected situation. Having defined the philosophy will help to write the rest of the plan clearly and understandably.

Organizing thoughts on paper can help the teacher to work on students' skills development. One can start by making a list of all possible disruptions and misbehaviours that can occur in the classroom. Use the list to create a set of rules. Before one defines the rules and the consequences,  make sure to familiarize yourself with the school district’s policies and procedures concerning classroom management. Use it as the basis of the plan. Then simplify the rules into a few basic rules that are easily understood by students. Decide what kind of motivation and reward system one wants to use. What the consequences will be if the child breaks the rules.

Each teacher has their specific styles of teaching. The classroom management plan should fit into that style. Before one writes an effective education plan, decide what kind of teaching style suits them best:

  • Students work individually on their tasks.

  • Students collaborate and work in pairs instead of individually.

  • Students exchange information with different partners.

  • The teacher talks and the student respond silently.

  • Student work autonomously.

Only reciting aloud the rules and consequences will be as ineffective as reading the lesson for the day. After explaining what the rules and consequences are, the teacher needs to demonstrate it. Remind the students regularly and be predictable when enforcing the program.

Routines help classrooms run smoothly. To be effective, the teacher must regularly enforce the routines and schedules. To expect students to behave in a certain way, the teacher needs to shape the behaviour. For instance, if the teacher wants students to be on time, the teacher needs to model it by being on time and not going overtime with lessons. In addition to having rules and consequences, have a reward in place when students achieve a goal. Find out what motivates each student. It may be doing well in a test or learning new things or overcoming shyness to participate.

Encourage students by helping them set achievable goals which will motivate them to try their best. Use a safe classroom environment for them to practice new skills. For instance, if a student is interested in writing or public speaking, give them opportunities in class to hone these skills. Nowadays, various international schools are focusing on the holistic development of children like one of the best international schools in India is Mount Litera School International (MLSI), opting effective strategies to do the same.
