Begining of Thanks Giving Day

In United States the fourth Saturday is celebrated a national holiday for Thanks Giving whereas second Monday is celebrated as Thanks Giving Day in Canada. This ay is celebrated for giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest. This celebration has its own importance in terms of history, culture and tradition.

Governor William Bradford arranged a feast when the first corn of the pilgrims was successful on in November 1621. A special group of fledgling colony’s Native American allies along with the Wampanoag chief Massasoit was invited for celebration where the celebration lasted for three long days. This celebration is now remembered as “First Thanks Giving Day”

Special food was arranged for this celebration. The food was prepared with special ingredients with traditional Native American cooking methods and spices which were without pies, cakes or deserts. The reason for the lake of sweet dishes was Mayflower’s sugar supply had dropped in 1621 by the fall.

The food arranged has its own importance. Governor William Bradford had sent four of his loyal men for the hunt mission and that the Wampanoag had arrived with five deer. This meat was used for the food that would be served.

In 1789 First Thanks Giving proclamation by National Government of United States was issued under the leadership of George Washington. In 1863 it was Abraham Lincoln who scheduled Thanks Giving day for the final Thursday as National Holiday. During the great depression Franklin D. Roosevelt then moved the holiday up a week to spur retail sales. In 1941 President signed a bill making fourth Thursday as Thanks Giving day. This plan was known as Roosevelt’s plan or Franksgiving.

New York was one of the first of the several states who adopted Thanks Giving Holiday as National Holiday in 1817. 90% of the American eats bird on Thanks Giving Day according to National Turkey Federation. The Thanks Giving day celebration food includes Turkey, Stuffing and Pumpkin Pie.  

Today this celebration looks to be incomplete without beautiful, fresh and colorful Thanks Giving flowers arrangements, centerpiece and bouquets etc which includes using different combination of deep red, yellow and orange colored flowers.
