Mumbai is the beach capital of Western India, and its beaches have been featured in numerous Bollywood and Hollywood movies alike. While Juhu Beach remains one of the most popular and well known beach of Mumbai, there are many more hidden beaches spread across Mumbai. If you are a beach lover, then here’s a list of the hidden gems Mumbai has to offer:

1.    Gorai Beach

Gorai is a village, situated in the North-Western part of Mumbai and is known for its comparatively clean and tranquil beach. It has loads of palm trees, providing ample shade for beach lovers. At Gorai beach you can opt for boat ride in the sea or a Horse ride along the beach. If you are travelling with kids, do drop by the Essel world Amusement Park that’s located in Gorai. It will keep your kids entertained for hours.

2.    Uttan Beach

This beach is located at the Northern tip of Mumbai. It’s a small but tranquil beach. Uttan beach is mostly frequented by locals and is a relatively unknown tourist spot. The rocky topography of this beach makes it an excellent photo-shoot location. Main attractions at this beach are a lighthouse, our lady of Vailankanni Shrine and the local fresh seafood.

3.    Juhu Beach

It is not wrong to say that Juhu Beach is the heart and soul of Mumbai. Juhu is one of the poshest areas and the residence of many big celebrities. The six kilometers of yellow sand makes it a massive beach. Juhu beach is a foodie haven, with numerous food stall lining the entire length of the beach. From soda to chat, Juhu beach has everything your palette might carve.

4.    Marve Beach

Malad is the closest railway station to reach this beach. Regular ferries are operated from Marve to Essel World, Water Kingdom, and Manori Island. Manori Island features a Buddhist Meditation center, which is an interesting visit if you are into meditation. Marve Beach is smaller than other beaches; its area is further limited, as the beach is also used by Indian Navy as a base for conducting trainings. The area used by Navy is cordoned off and not accessible for general public.

5.    Madh Island Beach

As the name suggests, this beach is located off a island by the name of Madh. Madh island beach is much cleaner and well maintained than most other beaches of Mumbai. It is a popular weekend getaway amongst the locals, who rent out bungalows across the beach for overnight stay. The beach itself is quite picturesque, however the waters off the beach are dangerous and venturing in the sea after sundown is strictly prohibited.

6.    Versova Beach

Versova beach can be easily accessed by the Versova metro station, on Metro line; or via Andheri railway station on the Railway line. This is a relatively small beach, and is generally frequented by locals only. If you like a quite stroll by the beach, this would be a perfect spot for you.

7.    Girgaum Chowpatty Beach

It is located along the marine drive and is one of the busiest areas of Mumbai. Girgaum beach is relatively clean and the best way to enjoy its beauty is to rent a Mat and watch the sunset over the sea with loved ones by your side. This beach is also the perfect spot to observe the nightlights of Mumbai and the very famous Queen’s Necklace of Mumbai.
