Be Adventurous With Your New Ford Explorer

by Masashi S. JDM Enthusiast

The Ford Explorer was first revealed in 1990 and is one of Ford’s most popular mid-size SUVs. The sixth-generation Ford Explorer U625 series is built in the Ford CD6 platform offering a wider stance, spacious cabin, and much better off-road performance which continues to evolve throughout its generation.

The U625 series was released on January 9, 2019, and is one of those Sport Utility Vehicles with unique styling, reliability, efficiency, and capability. In addition, it also offers new trim variants filled with modern amenities, a powerful drivetrain, and cutting-edge features for the comfort, convenience, and security of the occupants. Now, let us talk about the pros and cons of buying the latest Ford Explorer.

5 Pros

Strong Engine Options

The Ford Explorer offers two powerful engines, the 2.3L EcoBoost straight-4 turbocharged engine producing 300 hp and 310 lb-ft torque. Another is the 3.0L EcoBoost V6 twin-turbocharged petrol engine producing 365 – 400 hp and torque 380 – 415 lb-ft depending on the trim level paired with a Ford 10R60 10-speed SelectShift automatic and with towing capacity from 5,300 to 5,600 pounds.

Hybrid Engine Option

The Ford Explorer offers a hybrid version, a 3.3L V6 engine with an electric motor producing 318 hp (237 kW). Also, a plug-in hybrid version of a 3.0L V6 petrol engine paired with 100 hp (75 kW) electric motor and 13.6 kWh lithium-ion battery producing 450 hp (336 kW) and 600 lb-ft (813 N⋅m), with a towing capacity of 5,000 pounds.

Rear-Wheel Drive System

The Ford Explorer offers a rear-wheel-drive system instead of a front-wheel-drive, to improve the sporty nature of the vehicle as well as maximize its performance and capability. And offering a more powerful towing capacity than any other SUV.

Roomy Interior Cabin

The Ford Explorer has a spacious cabin with three rows and is ideal for big families or transporting numerous passengers. The Explorer seats can also be configured in the middle row with captain’s chairs to open up more room and to move around easier.

Modern and Safety Features

The latest Ford Explorer also offers modern features and a safety system that includes LED daytime running lights and tail lights, keyless entry, power liftgate, power massaging seats, heated and ventilated front seats, 10.1-inch infotainment system with navigation, 14 speaker audio system, wireless charging pad, and plenty of storage areas. The driver-assist systems also include adaptive cruise control, electronic parking brake, post-collision braking, lane keeping system, and automatic emergency braking system.

5 Cons

Limited Third Row Space

The Ford Explorer has a third row with limited space, which is a perfect place only for kids. It doesn’t have much space and is a bit uncomfortable for tall passengers with only about 32 inches of legroom.

Expensive High-End Models

The Ford Explorer has excellent engines and interior features, particularly the high-end models, but it can’t be afforded by some people. Even the limited model is pricey which makes the base model and the XLT as the only possible choices.

Small Infotainment System

The Ford Explorer infotainment system comes with an 8-inch or 10.1-inch touchscreen which makes the Explorer a bit small compared to other SUVs. Still, the Explorer offers state-of-the-art systems which make up for the somewhat small infotainment system.

Cramped Cargo Space

The Ford Explorer offers over 500 liters of cargo space behind the third row, which is a bit cramped for some buyers. Though the back seats can be folded down to create more room, other competitors of the Explorer offer spacious cabins and enough room for cargo, which is a good use for transporting people and cargo.

Narrow Rear Windshield View

The Explorer looks stunning from the front up to the back though the rear windshield looks narrow and it somewhat hinders the driver’s view. But the Explorer has plenty of driver assistance systems and features to make up for this small mishap.

Generally

The Ford Explorer is one of the known mid-size SUVs with impressive reliability, powerful engines, fuel efficiency, advanced features, and off-road capability. It can be driven around the city as personal transport or used for off-road activities in any weather conditions. You can now check the Ford Explorer stocklist to find more affordable and latest models that will definitely suit your budget.
