Cuddling your dog on the sofa or the bed is always a fun experience. Playing with it is a wonderful activity. But these wouldn’t be nice if you have a dirty and smelly dog. Thus, you need to give your dog a decent bath regularly. Here are some tips on how to bathe your dog. Before you start bathing your dog, choose a good location. Your options are your tub or the sink. The tub is a nice option because it gives you and your dog ample space to move about. But bathing your dog on the tub is not advised if your dog has just come from an outdoor run where it has gathered a lot of dirt. After choosing the place to bathe your dog, prepare all the necessary materials. You need to have everything that you would need ready before you start because dogs are not like kids whom you can instruct to stay in place as you fetch the shampoo or the towel. Bath your dog using dog shampoo. Do not use a shampoo designed for humans. They have different compositions. But choosing dog shampoo over your shampoo is not the end of it. You must also choose the right shampoo for your dog’s skin type. Like humans, dogs also have different needs. There are shampoos for dogs with normal, dry and oily skin. Below are the following tips after choosing the right shampoo for your dog:
  • In shampooing your dog, make sure that you keep shampoo from their eyes. Should shampoo get in their eyes, wash with warm water.
  • Put cotton balls in their outer ear to prevent water from entering. Water in the ears is uncomfortable. It gets them irritated and restless.
  • Clean their feet well. Make sure you remove all the dirt stuck on the feet using brush. Also clean the nails properly as dirt can accumulate there.
  • Rinse well. Leaving shampoo will cause skin irritation. Use water with the right temperature. Make sure water is not too cold or too hot. Dogs do not like hot baths like humans do.
  • Brush or comb the hair before and after bathing your dog. It prevents hair from getting tangled. Choose the right kind of brush or comb to use. Combs with fine tooth are not good for breeds with curly locks.
  • After it’s done, dry it with towel. They’ll become dirtier if you let them run around while still wet. You can use hair dryer but make sure it is not too hot to prevent hair fall.
  • Lastly, do not forget to wear apron when bathing your dog.
