Proper lighting is one of the most important factors that can affect the look of a home. It will most likely dictate the warmth, space and ambiance a home is capable of radiating.

Here are some lighting decorating tips for your small homes:

Light colored lighting fixtures

Go for white and light colored lighting fixtures that have softer hues to make the space visible. Dark colors will only make the room or space shallow. Be sure to have glossy pain indoors to allow the light to bounce off your walls creating an even more radiant ambiance for your homes. Take advantage of natural light as much as possible during the day and open up windows. A block out blind will do the trick when you want to control the light that enters your home. During night time opt for LED and energy-saving light bulbs.

Light the corners of the room

Putting lights in the corners of the room can make an illusion of extra width and height making the area looks even larger. It also creates a flattering ambiance that is good for illuminating the living space. Also, you can use table lamps and make the light focus in a dimly lighted area to make the space even look brighter and bigger.

Make the dining table have the brightest light in the room

By highlighting the dining table, it can create a bigger ambiance of the room especially the dining area. Usually, the dining table is the center of the said room as it is vital for all members or guests in the house. You can add a chandelier on top of your dining table, if the budget permits, not only to add brighter lights for the area but can also serve as a highlight or focal point in that particular area in the house.

Reading lamps beside the bed

Make the room cozy by putting reading lamps on both sides of the bed – if space permits. But, in cases that the area has a limited spot to put on some furniture and fixture, one reading lamp could do. You can also attach wall lamps instead of side table lamps to save space and to highlight your bed as the center of your bedrooms.

Attach lighting fixtures onto mirrors

Unleash your inner Hollywood vibe and put some lights around the mirror that you use inside the bathroom. It flashes a good dimension from the mirror and will undoubtedly improve the look of any room. You can do the same with the windows in your rooms and some of the mirrors you have in your living areas.

Highlight

Do not forget to have some highlight whether the place is really small. It reveals the home’s character and perceive attitude and creates a greater illusion to make the place look big. This can either be in the form of light bulbs underneath your entertainment area or under your kitchen cabinets. A few of these lighting fixtures can definitely make any space look bigger that it is actually is.
