Whenever you feel tired or pain in your back, your first thought is to lay down and have a good night's sleep.  But the worst part is that you feel worse than before. The pain increases, even if there was no one before. Such back pains occur due to incompatible sleeping surfaces.

There are many causes of back pains in sleep. They might be related to your sleeping surface or some other activities that you adopt before sleeping. The main causes of back pains are:

·          Mattress- Soft items put different amounts of stress on parts of your backbone, causing them to be out of alignment. While on the contrary, some people consider using  affirm mattress to be the solution of all back problems. This also false, a hard mattress can also throughout if alignment.

·          Pillow- A bad pillow can put pressure on your neck and can affect the positioning of your cervical and spinal shape. Multiple pillows can also put your body out of alignment. Similarly, feather filled or foam pillows might cause back pains after losing their shape.

·          Sleeping posture- sleeping on your stomach might also result in back pains; this is because it applies stress on the points where your spine naturally bends. Similarly, sleeping on your side results in a pelvic tilt and sleeping on your back might put pressure on the lumber region of your backbone.

The best sleeping posture

There is no best sleeping posture. Every posture has its advantages and disadvantages. You just need to take care in each posture, and make sure that you do not sleep in the same position for a long period of time. Here are the all the sleeping positions and their proper adoption for relief from back pain:

·          Side sleeping position: this is most recommended because it maintains the natural S –shape of the body. The secret of proper posture is to support both neck and lower back. Place a pillow between neck in a parallel direction. Also, place a support pillow between your waist and leg on the upper side.

·          Straight posture: you should be aware that your backbone has some curves. Lying straight can put pressure on the bends. The right way is to place a pillow on your back to support those bends.

·          Stomach sleeping posture: this posture can be correctly used by the placement of a neck and back support pillow, under your stomach.

Types of Sleeping Surfaces

There are many types of sleeping surfaces that can be used like air technology mattresses. These allow you to alter the mattress from soft to firm according to your preferences. The most commonly adopted sleep surface is a foam. You can also use a spring mattress. Its best feature is that it does not lose its shape with time. A waterbed is more of a therapeutic bed, rather than a surface for regular use.

The best option

With so many choices available it is hard to pick the right one on the basis of your body shape and requirements. The best option that you can adopt is a memory foam mattress. It does not have a permanent shape; rather it adopts the shape according to the body of the person lying on it. This results in bends and curves in all the right places, and complete support is provided to your body. SO, it turns into the right choice for everyone, even if two different people use it.
