Attendance System – What is Biometric System?

by Bryan Low -
What is Biometrics?
Biometric is a automated methods in recognizing a person based on physical, physiological and behavioural characteristics. That means, the features used in measuring such recognition are face, fingerprints, hand geometry, iris, retinal patterns, voice and handwriting. As technology innovates by nature, we are sure to see much more precise recognition from different traits. Biometric data are separate and distinct from personal information. These data cannot be stolen and replicated in any ways to access personal information.

Biometric data is extracted from your unique and physical attributes of your body, such as fingerprint or iris. The scanner will then identify and verify you effortlessly, and that is why it is the best and easiest solution in the market today. Biometric data is made so popular because it is simple, and precise. Although the technology has been existent for years, but not economically affordable for commercial use. However, today biometric scanners are readily available. They are not any more exclusive for government sectors, you as a small business owner can now own such technology.

How Does a Fingerprint Optical Scanner Work?
We don’t want to make things complicated out of a simple device. The job function is separated into 2 basic jobs – To scan your image, and match the image with the stored biometric data.

Employees Privacy and Cleanliness Concerns?
We understand that employees are concerned with privacy and security issues. It is important to note that biometric attendance system DO NOT collect and store biometric image and data. Instead, it saves a mathematical representation (like the image above => “01000110101010110011″) of the employee’s biometric data. Also not to be worried that the mathematical representation can be reverse engineered to replicate the biometric image.

Last but not least, be sure in educating your employees that the biometric scanner is not a hot zone for germs and bacteria. In fact, it will be touched far less frequently than restroom door handles, water cooler spigots, or chairs in the break room.
