Assist Me Recover My Wordpress Blog
Please, I need help with my wordpress blog nnamdiagha.com. This is not an article per se but, I have to use this medium as I hope to attract the much needed response that will sort out this problem for me. I hope you do not mind.
Background To Blog
I started writing this blog a few weeks ago after I retrieved the domain name nnamdiagha.com and re-registered it after two years of giving it up as a result of my failure to secure its renewal due to no credit or debit card balance. I have equally lost some other good domain names and hosted websites as a result of this problem.
Therefore, when I retrieved it through a local domain name registrar, I also secured hosting for it through the company for one year. Thereafter, I installed a wordpress blog on the root domain and I have been writing articles and posting therein.
Root of Problem - Wordpress Plugin
I wanted to get more exposure for the blog so, I installed a wordpress plugin whose name I have forgotten at the moment. Thereafter, I made a post which I could not publish to the blog. This was since Friday last week.
Today, the issue has exacerbated. I am now unable to:
- Log into my admin area
- View my dashboard
- View my stats
- Make a post
- Edit a post.
In a nutshell, I no longer have access to my blog as an administrator.
PRAYER
I need help to gain access to my blog admin and use my administrator privileges once more. What shall I do?
I am ready to uninstall all the plugins if that will solve the problem but, I do not know how since I do not have access to the admin area again.
Please, assist me with the knowledge to recover my blog.
Thanks in advance for your help. However, guesswork will not work here; if you are not sure what is to be done, join me to keep vigil for the
wordpress gurus to speak.
The blog is at http://nnamdiagha.com.

I'd say you can talk to Neville Dinning too. I guess he doesn't have the high level database knowledge of bj, but Nev can tell you about everything else as far as WP is concerned, and he's a retired career teacher, so he explains things in words accessible everyone

LOL Nnamdi, welcome to the real WordPress world :)
Not for the faint of heart, when you wish to exploit many features. You and I know it now, thanks to bj :)

@Philippe I am also asking the same question. Actually, BJ suggested I should ask for it from him. I hope I will get that and he has also suggested I should delete some conflicting plugins. And all the while I thought that wordpress was a simple blog platform!

Wow, I guess we have to be extra careful with plug-ins then. Do you have a list of plug-ins you recommend, and ones we should stay away from ?

Any plug in can cause it. It all depends on combinations of plug ins installed at the time.

@bjantiques absolutely right about that like they say "let the expert do it!", luckily that only my minor problem. by the way could you tell us what plugin that make bronnamdi blog "chaos"? so we didn't have to deal same problem in the future.. :-)

bj, glad to hear it about deleting plug-ins, I had my doubts about that tip. It seemed way too simple in the case of Nnamdi's problem.

@webbly you have to be extremely careful in just deleting a plugin. It is gone from the system yes, BUT it is still registered in the Database as active and that could cause the corruption of the database and thus the site as most of the site layout info is held in the Db. Each plugin removed in this way ingreased the chances of total corruption. Better to pay a little with a 99% chance of success, than have to pay a lot with 0% guarantee that the data can be recovered.

bj it's totally reasonable, we are all marketers after all, including you. I think this article could be used as a testimonial

Just because I do one for free does not mean I will do all for free however I will keep prices reasonable for APSense members. We provide services for everyone at affordable prices. I will leave it at that otherwise I would be guilty of turning this into an ad for me and my services.

Wow, Cheryl keeps saying you're good, and I never doubted her word, but I am glad to read your response to my question. It makes it even more remarkable that you helped Nnamdi for free, considering that your level of expertise is anything but cheap. Thumbs up, bj, and I mean it.

Nothing was accessible at the start, then one thing I did released the dash board only. So tried further and then released everything. The blog was fully functional from the public point of view it was the admin area that was down. As I host around 150 sites with blogs (another 100+-without) i am very familiar with this particular problem but as I say if you are not exceptionally proficient with data base manipulation it is not to be touched. I am referring to manipulating the actual content

To be more precise about my question, what I want to know is, were the posts accessible from the WP dashboard?

I agree 100% with you, bj. Database manipulation is a whole different ball game. At my job, when I do some, the DBAs are never far behind, and I'm talking about Oracle or SQL Server databases here. I have played a little with a MySQL database for a free HelpDesk script that I had installed, because my boss wanted to make sure we could extract information easily to create reports. However, in a case such as Nnamdi's problem here, I would definitely find someone who knows what he's doing, cause I

I would write an article on it. However, that may encourage those that are not proficient with database manipulation to try it and wipe out the blog completely instead of repairing it. That is something I do not want on my conscience. It is better to get someone who knows what they are doing rather than tinker with it. I can assure all that made suggestions that, although good for some situations, not one of them would have helped in a situation like the one Bronnamdi had.
