Asset tracking to aid oil-spill clean-up

Crude Oil and Petroleum are major water pollutants causing widespread damage to marine life and beyond. Within the last few years there have been increasing mentions of accidental oil spills from both marine and terrestrial sources.

 

These instances are encouraging oil industries to redefine the way they have been performing off shore and on shore drilling and to allow best practices to be put into place. This is allowing oil companies to respond quickly to oil spills and better assess the situation as new equipment allow rigs to communicate with plans and ships more freely and coordinate in case of spill.

 

Since, maintenance practices are more effective when coupled with a robust management system, using CMMS can help in planning and scheduling processes with accurate tracking. A computer maintenance management system helps in recording history of all assets and schedules future training and servicing.

 

Through IT enables maintenance and prevention practices, oil companies can reduce the risk of oil spillage and control the extent of damage to marine life and coastline.
