Are you looking to bolster your property’s security? Why not try upgrading your fence security?

by Ray Berry Security Specialist
Whether you have had a recent intrusion and are looking to upgrade to prevent further incidents, or are simply concerned you may need more security, you should consider upgrading your perimeter. As your first line of defence it is vital that it be the most effective, not only to protect but also to deter any intruders.

There are many different types of physical barriers you can erect around the perimeter of a property, from a simple brick wall to a high-tech series of barriers and bollards or a high security welded mesh fence. These barriers are a very visual statement of security that discourages intruders and comforts those being protected. It is a good idea to install technology either on or around these barriers to increase their effectiveness.

There are many different types of fence security, each with their own advantages and disadvantages depending on the site location and landscape as well as the surrounding conditions. They make for excellent upgrades to existing barriers and systems, or they can replace them as a superior product. The goal of the systems is to be unobtrusive once they are installed, which should be an easy process. They are generally not constrained to line of sight applications, making them ideal for irregular shaped sites as they can follow the shapes and contours of an erratic fence line. Though they do usually require a specific physical barrier such as a wall or fence, there are Taut Wire systems, which can form their own physical barrier. For this reason it is essential that they work on many different types of structures including chain link, welded mesh and palisade fencing, which makes them ideal upgrades.

If you looking to upgrade an existing barrier or perimeter structure, you will want to know what options there are available to you. There are various solutions including microphones, fibre optics and sensor wires. Of course not all of them would be suited to every situation or scenario, but each one does serve a valuable purpose.

Optic fibre and microphonic cables fundamentally work by detecting the typical mechanical disturbances produced during an attempted intrusion. That is the vibrations caused by cutting, climbing or generally disturbing the system in a noticeable way. They are both very simple to install and are cheap, with simple configuration. Sensor wires are older technology that some consider to be outdated, but they are incredibly reliable and have a very low rate of false alarms unlike some of the newer systems which are too sensitive. They are more complicated to install, but form their own physical barrier so no additional construction is required.

No matter what type of fence security you opt to install, you will want to ensure the best protection is present on your property. Each system has a series of advantages and disadvantages and also come in various versions with numerous brands offering the same or similar product. Ultimately the decision is best resolved with the assistance of an impartial, professional consultant or advisor as they can guide you to the most appropriate external intruder detector. Search online for the best options for your property.
