Are you aware of the myths around Matchmaking?
Marriage is an auspicious event and in Hinduism, it has been
given the most important place. To a very large extent, it decides the entire
course of a person’s life. In our culture marriage is said to be a union of 7
births. Therefore, the elders lay a lot
of stress on match-making. Matchmaking is a process in which an Astrologer
analyses the Kundlis of the prospective bride and groom. Are you aware of the aspects that
match-making highlight?
1) Panch Tatva: Every human is made
of five basic elements which are-
• Air
• Water
• Earth
• Fire
• Space
These five elements must be given special importance when
Matchmaking is done. For example- Earth symbolises calmness and peace. Pt.
Pawan Kaushik, who provides the best matchmaking
services in Gurgaon says, “If the girl has a strong Earth element
and the boy does not possess the same, there would be a possibility of rifts
and fights between the couple.”
2) Dasha-
Everyone goes through good and bad phases in their life. But it is always said,
“If winter comes, can spring be far behind?” Dasha in Astrology is a
determination of the various phases of one’s life that are a result of their
planetary positions. It is important to determine the Dasha of the couple as it
helps one in determining the best time when a couple should get married. Pt.
Pawan Kaushik, says that “Being a gemstone advisor in Delhi NCR,
I have often come across cases where couples before marriage, seek Gemstone
advice for making their future financially secure. Gemstones are miraculous
stones that often prove magical for them.”
3) Dosh-
Dosh in Astrology refers to the unhappy and unfavourable situations in one’s
life. Like Dasha, Dosha is also a result of the position of planets in one’s
horoscope. When matchmaking is done ‘Dosh’ of the girl and the boy must be
checked and rectified. For example- Mars is usually the primary planet that
causes malefic effects on a person’s horoscope and birth chart which is known as
‘Manglik Dosha’.
4) Gun-Milaap-
This factor comes at the end of match-making process. In this ‘Ashta Kutas’ or
8 factors are checked and then the compatibility of the couple is concluded.
Every Kuta or factor has been assigned 8 points, and the total is 36 points.
Generally a union of 18 and above points is considered, compatible whereas if a
couple gets less than 18 points, then the match is said to be incompatible.
Marriage is a big responsibility for the groom as well as
for the bride. Matchmaking helps them in preparing for life ahead which will
surely have ups and downs, but mutual respect, understanding and concern for
each other can make the journey smooth and happy. After all, who does not want
a ‘happily ever after’!
