In the recent times, there has been huge shift from traditional mobile phone deals to SIM only contracts. This has revolutionized the way the communication industry is functioning. Because a huge amount of people have opted for the SIM only option, there is a constant fear for SIM only service providing companies that offering them with low quality service would mean losing out on customers. Hence, there is a great rise in competition among the SIM only service providers and the consumers are being benefited because of this competition. But there is also a section of the society as well as communication industry experts that is still debating if this shift is really a progress.

The question raised above will attract different answers from different sections of the society. The wise thing to do would be to have a look at how the SIM only contracts operate and how they are different from the tradition mobile phone deals. First of all, the SIM only option offers a great amount of flexibility and freedom to the consumers that a traditional mobile phone deal doesn’t.  For example, if a consumer’s need for talk time or text messages increases over a period of time, it’s possible to opt for a new scheme without having to increase the monthly cost. However, this option is not available in a traditional Phone deal. Also, in the case of SIM only contracts, it’s possible to change to a new service provider entirely without having to go through the trouble of changing the phone number.

With the advancement in technology, new kinds of phone devices are being introduced within a short time span. When a new technology like 3G overtakes the market, the old devices are rendered useless or at least have very little advantages. If one opts for a traditional phone deal, then it’s impossible to get the benefit of buying a new handset without investing a fortune. However, with SIM only contracts, there is the freedom of not being bound to one contract and one cell phone for a long duration like one or two years.
