Are most Indian doctors just a little better than quacks?

by Nidhi A. Admissions Quaries

While talking to Reuters, India’s health secretary from 2009 to 2010, Sujatha Rao had famously said how doctors in this country were just a little better than quacks.

Well, her statement summed up the mess the medical education in India was in at that particular point of time. Nothing has changed since then, and we continue to produce doctors so poorly trained that quality healthcare continues to be a mirage to people. The rot in the system can be attributed to many factors, and backdated syllabus is one of them.

The medical studies syllabus here is not updated accordingly even when regular innovations and advances take place regularly in the medical field across the world. The use of technology is next to nil in imparting medical education to students, and no attempt is made to touch upon new streams of medical sciences.

The syllabus here still does not combine different bases of knowledge and science fields are mostly disjoined from each other, so a complete curriculum is never implemented. Clinical research is not given attention and students are taught in a teacher-centric pattern, which is hardly conducive for learning medical science.

Worse still, lack of quality teachers for medical colleges is another reason why good doctors are hard to produce in the country. Amid this gloomy backdrop, students can seek insights from MBBS admission consultants for guidance and seek admission in institutions that focus more on clinical knowledge than encourage rote learning. Medical aspirants can take help of education experts to know better colleges for admission.

More importantly, students should select medical colleges only after being sure of quality teaching and world-class infrastructure. Not all institutions are known for providing studies on par with the best in the world, but some are better than those notorious for lousy education. Students can thus seek admission into them and shape their medical career in a right manner.

Moreover, if Medical education is somehow not in one's appetite, students can alternatively think of seeking admission at one of the top pharmacy colleges in Bangalore and realize their medical dreams although in drug research, drug testing and other related pharmaceuticals fields. Choosing an alternative career course is however easier said than done for students wanting to be a trained doctor.

Admissions Square is one of the top admission consultants in Bangalore with years of experience in the education sector. Students can avail their services and shape a career in any stream of choice.
