Apsara with Peacock Applying Vermillion
Apsara with Peacock Applying Vermillion

Vermillion is a symbol of love, power, protection, and longevity; applied by all married women in their maang revealing their highest kind of beauty and virtue, for well being and the prosperity of their husbands. This statue is a brilliant brass transform of one of the best sculptures from Khajuraho, sculpted at parshvanath temple, famous for its intrinsic artistry.

This apsara statue is standing on a three-layered stylish pedestal with legs crossed and dancing in her rhythm showcasing her happy married life. In the right hand, she holds a peacock, a sign of purity, love, harmony, and truth, complementing her act of applying vermillion for her love. She is communicating with the bird while applying sindoor, expressing her desires- full of luster and beauty. She wears a sumptuous patterned dhoti and a similar scarf dancing down from her shoulders. The fancy necklaces are perfectly settled over her neck with big round kundals hanging freely and bracelets, anklets, and armlets are tied on their respective parts increasing her beauteous aspect.

She seems happy while decorating herself as Apsara is waiting for her husband to come and praise her and feel the same joyousness on seeing her, as she feels.
