Applying Approximation tricks to solve questions in CLAT’s Quantitative Techniques section

by Aakash Jain Award winning writer
Quantitative Techniques (QT) is one of the prominent sections of CLAT. The questions test the quantitative abilities of the student. Teachers of CLAT Gurukul teach the students diligently short-cut methods and tricks to successfully tackle questions under this section. You can score high marks in the QT section.

Under the QT section, questions are generally asked from the following topics:
  • Bar-graph
  • Pie-chart
  • Line-graph
  • Passage-based

Students at CLAT Gurukul hone their math skills under the focused guidance of teachers, simultaneously applying strategies to quickly solve the problems, saving time.

Broadly speaking, there are three distinct categories of mathematical knowledge required by the students to solve questions under the QT section, and they are:
  1. Percentage
  2. Average
  3. Ratio & Proportion

There are a total of 15 to 17 questions in CLAT from the QT section. You need to keep aside 12 to 15 minutes of solving questions under QT.

Approximation helps you to quickly guess the answer closes to the multiple options given to you. You need to rely on sharp approximation skills to mark the correct answer without wasting any time.

Remembering a reciprocal chart from 1 to 30 is a good way to tackle problems related to percentages. For example, if one is asked what the percentage form of 1/20 is, then the answer would be 5. The decimal form of the same question would be 0.05.

A good application of approximation would be finding the correct answer in the decimal form of a fraction. In a fraction, there are two components — numerator and denominator. You have to keep in mind the basics — when numerator increases keeping the denominator the same, the value of the decimal form of the fraction increases. On the other hand, when the denominator increases keeping the numerator the same, the same value decreases.

As an aspirant, when you practice more and more the trick of approximation and follow the instructions of experienced tutors at the best CLAT coaching in Patna, CLAT Gurukul, you increase the chances of flawlessly solving the questions under QT sections and crack the competitive exam of CLAT.
