Application and Uses of Transformers

by Dilip Mohta Trio Transformer - Manufacturer, Exporters and Sup

There is a vital role of the transformer in the generation and distribution of electric power.  The primary function of the transformer is to transmit from one circuit to another. Transformer regulates electricity by modifying current and distributing power in AC instead of DC. There are too many difficulties in transmitting direct current, and because of that transformer does not work on DC.

There are various types of transformers in India, based on the operation of coils. But, they all used for the standard set of purpose, which is regulating electric current.

Applications of transformers

Regulating AC (alternating current)

The transformers are used to increase and decrease the alternating current in the electrical system. Transformer controls the flow of current and allows increased energy efficiency, which reduces the electricity bills to a great extent.

Stopping and starting the flow of electricity

The transformer is used to stop or interrupt the flow of electric current, whenever there is a high voltage flow. A transformer utilizes the switch to automatically interrupt the energy flow and prevent any damage to appliances, which occur due to voltage fluctuation.

Battery charging

While charging the battery, transformers are used to regulate the voltage that enters in the battery, to prevent any damage due to internal components of the battery.

The main application of the transformer is to increase or decrease the level of voltage. Below are the other important uses and application of transformer:

  1. It can raise or lower the level of Voltage or Current in an AC Circuit.

  2. It can increase or decrease the value of a capacitor, an inductor or resistance in an AC circuit.

  3. It can be used to prevent DC from passing from one circuit to the other.

  4. It can isolate two circuits electrically.

Conclusion

In this article, we have discussed the transformer uses and applications in India. The transformer is not just used in getting the required voltage level but also used in measuring instruments such as voltmeter, ammeter, etc. The transformer is used in applications where voltage conversion happens. The transformer has other uses as well, such as isolating two circuits. Hence it is essential to know the applications and uses of transformer before buying it.
