We all use electricity but it doesn’t come to our home directly. An important process is required to lower the voltage and after this electricity is delivered to our home. This process is performed by electrical substations. The electric substation also manages the electric networks and ensures the error free supply.

Power transformer is the prime component of an electric substation. The main role of a transformer is to increase or decrease the voltage. Another important component of substation is ‘switchgear’ which is also called ‘key component’. The main role of switchgear is to control and protect the electric circuit and ensure the fault less supply.

Basically there are two types of electric substations. These are large substation and small substation.

Large Substation- It is also called grid substation which is used to send the power across long distance.  It increases the voltage across long distance.

Small substation- Small substations lower the voltage to 33,000 volts. Generally these substations directly deliver the electricity to rail networks, factories or large institutions.

In India there are many reputed companies which do supply and installation works of 11 KV and 33/66 KV substations. These companies are playing an important role in power supply in different parts of India.
