An Aesthetic Technique For Parotid Tumors
by Alpha Surgical Group Alpha Surgical GroupParotidectomy is a technique that is
used in the treatment of a different kind of parotid and non- parotid issues.
In the initial phase, there was complication related to are visible patches,
sweating and facial delineation distortion. Sweating is also called Frey
syndrome in which chomping causes erythema, or the pin in the cheeks on the
area where parotidectomy is performed.
Nowadays, most of the patients have undergone parotidectomy and facelift medical solutions
and results are satisfied with the proper functioning of facial nerves and the
facelift incision supports with required exposure to the parotid gland for
superficial parotidectomy. It could be an alternative solution for the patients
with a small tumor in the tall of the gland.
Benign mixed tumors are another name
for Pleomorphic adenomas of the salivary glands, and it is a common type
of salivary glands tumors. Middle-aged adults are more prone to this tumor and
the last few studies indicate that females are more affected than males. The oncogenic
simian virus has a major in the development of the tumor and it promotes head
and neck irritation or itching.
There could be multiple treatments
when a patient is suffering from parotid gland:
1. Warthin tumor
2. mucoepidermoid carcinoma
3. Myoepithelium
4. Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC)
5. Parotid nodal metastasis
6. Parotid non-Hodgkin lymphoma
7. Intra-parotid facial nerve
schwannoma
Clinical
representation:
Patients have to suffer from painless
and smooth swallowing in the infected area.
Distribution among the salivary glands
is as follows:
a. Parotid gland: 84%
b. Submandibular gland: 8%
c. Minor salivary glands: 6.5%
d. Sublingual glands: 0.5%
The most common benign tumor of each
gland, others are less common in salivary glands other than the parotid.
Pleomorphic adenomas are also commonly found in the lacrimal glands.
There is very little risk in Pleomorphic
adenomas in case of malignant treatment and the excision id recommended in most
of the cases. Other risk factors are age, large size, radiation therapy or recurrent
tumors. When tumors re-occur, it is difficult to manage, even with the complex
treatments of radiation therapy or radiotherapy. To minimize the occurrence, an
open surgical biopsy should not be done on the patient. A parotidectomy can
ensure the less or no damage to the facial nerves and few chances of
reoccurrence will be there. Percutaneous ultrasound biopsy can be in case
of very low seeding rates and without injury to facial nerves by implementing
the meticulous technique is used.
