Marienplatz

Marienplatz or Our Lady’s Square is a popular square located at the heart of Munich, Germany.  Since 1158 it has been Munich’s main city square and has been named after Mariensaule in 1638 to celebrate the end of Swedish occupation. Marienplatz houses the New City Hall on the north, the old City Hall on the east. Initially, it was called Markt and was largely used for markets and tournaments. The Glockenspiel of the new city hall was influenced by these tournaments, the pedestrian zone is another attraction here jammed packed with shops and colorful restaurants.

The English Garden

The English Garden is a public garden located at the center of Munich. Created in 1789 under Sir Benjamin Thompson later by Count Rumford for Prince Charles Theodore –the Elector of Bavaria. The park stretches for 3.7 km2 and is one of the largest urban parks in the world. It draws its name from its informal landscape that was largely popular in England during the mid-18th century. The garden features a Japanese teahouse, a Chinese Tower, a surfing area, Schonfeldwiese and surroundings, Monopteros, and many more. The northern part of the garden is dominated by a small amphitheater that was built in 1985.

The Nymphenburg Palace

The Nymphenburg Palace is a Baroque palace located in the western district of Munich, Bavaria, southern Germany. Together with Nymphenburg Palace Park, it completes the premier royal palaces of Europe. Its frontal width encompasses Versailles Palaces, it was used as the main summer residence for the Bavarian royals. The palace was commissioned by Ferdinand Maria and Henriette Adelaide of Savoy, it was designed by the architect-Agostino Barelli in 1664. The palace was transformed and expanded using limestone from Kelheim, it quickly replaced the Blutenburg Castle of the court. Today the palace is celebrated as one of the famous sights and its neoclassical style. It witnesses more than 3million visitors annually making it one of the most visited destinations in Munich.
