When it comes to an engineering career success does not come suddenly or in a flash of brilliance. The Japanese have a wonderful word for this process of continuous improvement: kaizen. You must have heard of it. This concept was first tried and born in the industry and is the fundamental of LEAN and Six Sigma. These are recognised worldwide as a very important component of any organisation’s long-term competitive ability and strategy. This is the mindset you should employ if you pursue a successful career after graduating from any of the top engineering universities in Jaipur. so what is this mindset. This is a constant growth mindset.

A mindset that says that you need not stop ever, rather you move ahead slowly but surely. A mindset that focuses on improving just 1% every month. That’s it. it may sound very simple and actually something most people don’t think about. At a survey we did at a top 10 B.tech university in Rajasthan most respondents felt that 1% was too less an aim. They said why not 5%, why only 1%. The answer is simple. The goal is not to compete in showing off your improvement rather it is to grow in a manner that is sustainable while you are also doing work that you are supposed to do. You would not want a situation where your actual work suffers because you are putting a lot of your focus and energy on the prospect of growing and improving. So 1% every month it is and done well it can lead to staggering improvements in your work ethic and performance in just as little as a year.

So, what should you focus on. First of all, you need to work on your technical and professional competence. Dos this look around you within your organisation. Look at people who are doing things better and try to understand how they are doing it. it is like in sport. You can actually watch a professional play, understand what he or she is doing and then try to use that to improve your game. The same applies in work. Someone with years of experience will take less time to do similar work. Try to understand what she or he is doing right what are the obvious mistakes that person is avoiding as a matter of course. Suppose you take ten step to accomplish a goal, that person takes only seven. That is a massive 30% reduction in workflow. Try and analyse how that person has achieved that and whether the outcome is the same. Also, see if there is any saving of time or the time required is the same. These questions will help you improve everyday.
