Alternative For Traditional Roofing
Roofing materials are used
on the roofs to protect the roofs from various harsh weather conditions which
include heavy rain during the monsoon season, scorching heat in the months of
summer, Formation of snow or snow flow during winter.
Cedar shakes, cedar
shingles and WRC shingles are all, types of roofing materials used in the outermost
layer of a roof in a building. Other than these, there are other types of
materials also used for roofing, namely, sea grass, wheat straw, rice straw,
slate, asphalt, stone slabs, asbestos, wood, metal, polyester, fabric and
concrete. Use of a roofing material depends on the climate of a region,
availability, longevity and durability of the material, architectural styles
and forms, and also on the taste of the owner of the building or builder. All
these attributes are to be kept in mind before choosing a material for roofing
of a building.
Cedar shakes are a type of
shingle used on the top most layer of a roof. The shakes are rougher in
appearance, not polished, totally opposite from the cedar shingles known for
their sophisticated look. The cedar shake roofing material is not appropriate
for the places where the weather tends to be breezy. This is because of the
fact that the cedar shakes when installed on the roof create gaps in between
two consecutive sheets, from where rain, snow, dust and other particles may
enter inside.
Cedar shingles is a type
of roofing material used on the roofs of a building. They have a high life
expectancy which makes it an obvious choice for roofing but the high cost and
vulnerability to fire make it unpopular in today’s world where there are other
better options within one’s budget. These materials have a polished appearance
and therefore suited to variety of styles. This type of roofing can be seen in
eastern part of United States, Chile and North America.
WRC shingles are also
known as Western Red Cedar shingles used
as a roofing material for covering the roof tops of a building. It is also used
in the covering of walls in some parts of the world. This is well known for its
durability, resilience, natural feel and the fact that it is a renewable
resource.
