What is Hydraulic Flange?

Hydraulic flanges are used to connect, pipes, tubes, hoses with valves, pumps, cylinders or used to create a system, through which any hydraulic liquid can flow without leaking. The flanges are meant to leak-resistant and handle high pressure. O-ring face seals, Flares, NPT are such examples of flanges.

Types 

Depending upon the type of fluid, the pressure it creates the flanges are made to fit in the proper system. There are different types of flanges, depending on several factors, they are


  • Size: There are different flanges with a different, inner and outer diameter, different number of bolt holes, the bolt circle and bolt hole diameter. The standards of sizes are JIS/DIN/ANSI.


  • Bolt holes: In determining the size of a bolt, this is a key component. It also indicates the capacity to hold a particular pressure. While determining the size and pressure handling capacity, keep in mind three factors, i.e. the actual size of the particular bolt hole, pitch circle diameter, the total amount of bolt holes.


  • Thickness: The thicker the flanges are, they can withstand higher pressure. So, by determining the thickness, it also can be evaluated how much pressure a flange can withstand.


  • Pressure Class: There are different pressure class from low pressure to high-pressure tolerance. Pressure class indicates the minimum amount of pressure a flang can withstand. The pressure class of the flange and the pressure class of the pine and valve should match with the pressure class of the particular system.


  • Material: The material is one of the most important factors for a flange. Stainless steel, steel, carbon steel, copper-nickel etc. are the general materials that are used.
