All You Need to Know About Wasps And Their Hibernation Period

by Nathan Daniel Content Creator

Like many of us, wasps are not at all fond of the cold season. They retire into creeks and crevices during winter and hide there. But there is something else. Not all wasps can hide in the colder season. Only the queen wasp can do it. She creeps into some warmer, hidden spot and stays there till winter is over. So what are other ordinary wasps up to in the months of winter? They DIE! Yes, they have no survival instinct like their leader, and they all die due to starvation. The queen wasps, however, take all their belongings (food) and hide away in some creek or crevice to survive these months. Once winter is over, they come out and start building their new nest.

Where do the Queen wasps hibernate?

According to an expert in wasp control in Narre Warren South, the queen wasp can hide anywhere, from tree barks to your home, during the colder months. All they look for is a warm sport to stay till spring. In that case, the queen wasp may even plan to build her next nest near their hibernation spot. Do you understand what it means? Well, it could be planning to build one in your home without your knowledge or permission. Sometimes, you could see a wasp flying around your property at the onset of spring. Yes, you are right! It may be planning to build a nest. Is it scary enough for you to call in pest control experts?

How to remove a wasp nest

First of all, it is better NOT to try this if you do not have the training. Even if you try to do that in winter, assuming that the wasps are hibernating (or dead), don’t. You never know if there is a living one there. A wasp bite causes severe pain, and sometimes, allergic reactions can even be fatal. So, it is better to call in the experts to do the job harmlessly.

What to do if you see a hibernating wasp?

You can kill it harmlessly by using sprays. If you are hesitant to do it or are afraid to get near it, you can call an expert team for pest control in Dandenong to do the job for you. Otherwise, by the end of winter, you may find these creatures circling your home space happily. Not a pleasant thought, right?
