All about Components Inspected in an MOT Exam

by Amelia Jones Millennium Vehicle Services

MOT test is a legal examination for determining the condition and safety standards of a vehicle. In this test, vehicles get certificates for roadworthiness so it does not cause any problems to you and your fellow drivers. Upon clearing the test, the government provides MOT certificate permits to vehicles that clear the examination.

According to the UK government, if you are a frequent driver, or own a car older than three years of age you have to visit or inform the MOT centre for testing your vehicle. Before the expiration of the old certificate, you have to renew the license by getting an MOT Stockport test.

Guidelines for some components of the MOT exam

FUEL SYSTEM-

Checking the fuel system ensures that there are no leakages or damage. You must also verify the situation of the fuel pipe, fuel tanks, and hoses for the security of the vehicle because if there is some leakage, it may cause fire or life-threatening damages. If you want to pass the exam, you must fit the fuel cap properly and lock the lid tightly. The cap of fuel tanks needs to open when the mechanic wants to inspect it during the test, so you have the key to the cap. The exhaust pipes will be tested for ensuring that the vehicle did not release pollution and qualified the legal requirements. The level of pollution released, age and type of fuel is different in cars.

The exhaust system must be OK and should complete the requirements. If something is absent or harmed in the exhaust system, your vehicle fails the MOT Stockport exam. If an exhaust system produces a loud sound in the test; your car may break down; that's why the order must be fine without any leakage or making noise above the required value.

SEAT AND SEATBELTS-
Mechanics examine the seat and seatbelt condition; that's why seatbelt has to tighten and work properly, and they consider the operation, security, strength of the belt

DOORS-

The Doors are checked for child lock and their proper functioning. Hinges and catches will be examined for safety conditions.

TYRES, RIMS, AND WHEELS-

The air pressure, tyre conditions, and rim conditions will be examined for safety and security purposes. Your vehicle tyres should have a perfect size and its nut-bolts should be properly fitted.

BRAKES AND THE HAND BRAKES-

All brakes are checked by inspecting the braking distances in the MOT exam

What to do that brakes do not fail in the test?

Before getting to any major parts of the braking system, you must check the brake pads for proper size or diameter, wearing conditions and efficacy. If any issues are found, then immediately replace them with a new one. Worn-out brake pads indicate that brakes pads complete their lifetime and are not able to slow down or stop the vehicle.

Checking the brake fluid or disc brakes is also a part of the MOT test if the level reduces to the end or half of the tank, your car may fail. Brake fluids are necessary for the disc brakes for producing air pressure, and grip on the disc plates as the level mentioned in the manual handbooks’ fluids are levelled between the minimum and maximum marked inside the bonnet of the car.

HOW ARE THE BRAKES EXAMINED IN AN MOT?

An MOT expert checks the brakes of your car including with brake pads of a car in two different ways-

• Physical examination of the brake components.
• Testing for checking the braking capacity.

Significant components of brakes which are inspected during the MOT-
The Brakes, the ABS (Anti-lock Braking Systems)
Brake Fluids or Brake Oil, Handbrakes, EBS (Electronic Braking System)
Mechanics also test brake capacity and rolling resistance as well.

You should also get a Car Service Stockport to ensure passing the test.
