Advertising Design Melbourne: Tips For A Successful Print Design

by Paperdino Design Paperdino Design Solutions

Do you know how many products are created each year? We don’t have the exact number either. But it’s safe to say that there are probably thousands of new products created around the world each year. And when there are products, you need advertising.

How do you stand out from the crowd and make your ads memorable? How do you compete from thousand other companies who are all clamoring for attention? Here are some tips from an advertising design Melbourne company:

1.       Consider the ad environment.

Thinking of designing one ad and placing it on various ad environments? Not so fast. Your ad design should take into consideration where it is going to be placed – on taxi tops, billboards, frames, etc. Different environments require different media. Find out which medium is best suited for your design. Additionally, you should also choose print-friendly and copyright-free images. Choose at least 300 DPI. If you’re unsure, seek help from a professional advertising design Melbourne agency.

2.       Make it about your target audience.

Advertising is about your customers, not your company. Do you know what appeals to your target customers? Your image and copy should resonate well with your target to be effective. Make the message simple but clear. You don’t need to fill in every inch of your ad space with text. Use them sparingly as you would with images.

3.       Create a focal point.

Stunning visuals draw in the eyes. They tell a story that a copy cannot. But too many images can clutter the design. One way of creating a powerful ad is to choose images that are relevant to your offering. Sometimes an image alone can convey your message. If the image creates more confusion than awareness, it’s best to ditch it. Also a note on colors: The more colors you have doesn’t mean that your ad will be more noticeable. On the contrary, it could make the eyes shift away. Stick to two or three colors that your brand use. If you want to add interest, you can use another color from the same family. Your colors should go well with each other even if they are from contrasting color families. White space are also good in creating focus. Use it liberally to draw more attention to your focal point.

4.       Write a powerful benefit.

You have only a few seconds to catch the attention of your audience. What better way to do so but with a benefit-led headline? Use a desirable benefit in your headline and explain more (but briefly) about it in the body copy. Remember that people are always thinking, “What’s in it for me?” A benefit will communicate exactly what your customers can expect from your offering.

5.       Include a call to action.

What’s an ad without a call to action? If your ad doesn’t contain one, it’s about time that you include one. It could be to visit your website to find out more, check out your physical store, etc. A call to action tells your audience what you want them to do. It doesn’t have to be over the top. In fact, it shouldn’t be. Keep the call to action simple but specific.

Advertising for print media shouldn’t be complicated. It doesn’t have to shout, but it doesn’t have to be muted either. Keep your message clear and your design simple. You’ll be surprised at what constraint can do for your design. Follow the basic rules so you can have more room for creativity in other design aspects.
