Advantages of Outsourcing Managed NOC Services

by Ryan Davis Writer

A network operating center (NOC) is a centralized location, where IT technicians can support other organizations with the help of remote monitoring and management software. The main task of the NOC team is to be vigilant of all endpoints and ensure that all the customers of a managed service provider (MSP) have constant uptime. The primary function of NOC remains the same regardless of whether MSP outsources the NOC services or keep it in-house. Although the functionality of in-house and outsourced NOC remains the same, a number of companies are shifting towards outsourced NOC due to its various advantages. Let's take a look at some of them.

Constant uptime:

One of the major benefits of outsourcing a managed NOC services is constant uptime. The internal NOC team is, no doubt, capable of executing their work competently but they only work during office hours. The limited working hours makes it impossible for in-house professionals to maintain round-the-clock uptime. In contrast, NOC services firms have employees working in shifts on a 24*7 basis. This working pattern allows the firm to maintain constant uptime for its clients.

Immediate problem resolution:

A majority of the IT issues occur during the night time. The employees of companies with an in-house NOC services are not usually present during this time. This can prove to be greatly damaging. However, this problem is not faced by outsourcing the work to managed NOC services due to the above mentioned point.

Reduces unnecessary manpower:

With an in-house managed NOC services, the company is forced to keep a number of unskilled human resource for simple purposes, such as antivirus scan, backup monitoring, and so on. The NOC services include the management of the mentioned category of tasks in their package thus relieving the company from an unnecessary burden.

A smooth problem resolution mechanism:

The NOC services are organized in a hierarchical order in terms of technical sophistication. The bottom hierarchy consists of employees who deal with the basic work and when they face any problem, they are instructed to transfer their work to the upper level. In this way, all assigned work and problem resolutions are done in a relatively short period of time.
