Advantages and Disadvantages of a Wood Storage Shed

Storage sheds are useful and essential structures for almost every home and property. These additional outdoor structures add extra storage space and allow for minimum clutter inside the house. There are different types of sheds that are made from a variety of materials, allowing potential buyers to make comparisons on units based on different criteria. Wooden storage sheds are by far the most common and popular storage sheds available, and most people are often willing to pay more to build or buy a wood storage shed over a vinyl or metal shed.

Wooden storage sheds have a number of advantages that make them popular among homeowners, yet they still have some disadvantages:

Variety and Style

One of the greatest advantages with wooden sheds is that they offer a lot of variety in terms of styles and size. They come in a variety of styles and sizes than metal, plastic or vinyl sheds. In terms of aesthetics, wooden sheds are more appealing. They are arguably the best looking storage sheds available in the market and they complement well with a broad range of architectural styles for homes. They can also be easily fitted or retrofitted with accessories such as turbines and windows if need be. 

Stability

In terms of security and stability, wooden storage sheds are highly secure when compared to storage sheds that are made from other types of materials. Wooden storage sheds are usually heavier than say vinyl or plastic sheds. They are therefore less vulnerable to wind damage and they normally have a more watertight floor when compared to plastic and steel sheds.  

Disadvantages

Besides the advantages of wooden storage sheds, there are some disadvantages to wooden storage structures. It is important to familiarize yourself with these disadvantages prior to making a decision.

Maintenance

A major disadvantage with wooden storage sheds is that they need routine maintenance that often includes regular painting, caulking, as well as some occasional replacement of shingles. Storage sheds that are made from wood are widely popular than the three main shed alternatives. While plastic, metal and vinyl sheds certainly have their advantages, the advantages of having a wooden storage shed far outweigh the three other options in many cases.
