Pilgrimage in India is going on for ages and has great religious significance among the Hindus. It is also prevalent among other religions as well apart from Hinduism. It is basically a sojourn made to sacred places and shrines to attain spiritual peace and moral significance. There is no dearth of Hindu pilgrimage destinations in not only in the mystical land of India but also in the Himalayan Kingdoms.

Known for its religious significance, cultural value, and thrilling beauty of nature, Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is undertaken by hordes of people every year. Popularly known as the abode of Lord Shiva, Kailash Mansarovar holds religious importance among the people following Buddhism and Jainism apart from the Hindus. The reason behind may be the unique geographical setting of the place.

A peak of Kailash Range, Mount Kailash is surrounded by Indus in the north, Sutlej in the west, mighty Brahmaputra in the east and Karnali, the largest tributary of the Ganges to the south within a radius of thirty miles. Hindus believe the peak to be symbolic of the lingam of Lord Shiva. Kailash is the Sanskrit name for the mountain. For the Buddhists, it is a natural mandala representing the Buddhist cosmology on earth. While the Jains believe it to be the place where their religious founder was spiritually awakened.
