by mambino organics wholesale product sellers store

With the myriad of sunscreens for babies available in today’s market, opting for the right one gets a little tricky. However, what matters more when applying sunscreen is how it’s going to protect your baby’s skin from UV rays.

What type of sunscreen is right for babies?

When you are to buy sunscreen for your baby, there are a few key factors to take into account. You should always read the labels carefully, and understand if the ingredients used to make the product are good for your baby’s skin or not.

  • Labels contain information about SPF (sun protection factor), which should be typically above 30
  • Information regarding protection against UVB, UVA rays (consider broad-spectrum sunscreens for this)
  • Understand if the sunscreen is water-resistant (it should protect your baby while in water for about 40-80 minutes)

Here are different kinds of sunscreens

Sunscreens are available in a variety of types, including creams, sprays, sticks, and gels. Creams are commonly considered the best they can be applied well and thoroughly and can be expected to give protection for quite longer. Sticks, on the other hand, are perfect for only eye-area protection; while gels are an ideal pick for areas like the scalp. Sunscreens sprays are as well making it to the top list; however, people often overuse them because with sprays you can’t for sure say if you have applied adequately. Some sunscreens sprays are flammable, meaning you have to avoid flames or sparks while using them. We recommend never using sunscreen sprays for babies. They might choke.

Miscellaneous factors to remember

  • Never mix up sunscreens with PABA. It might lead to skin allergies
  • Babies have the most tender and delicate skin. Therefore, you are advised to sunscreens with active ingredients, such as titanium dioxide.
  • If you want your baby to have a self-tanner sunscreen, prefer the one with UV protection. However, you should not want self-tanner sunscreens for babies.

Babies who are not more than 6 months old must be kept out of the sun. When you taking your baby outside, dress them up properly, and in lightweight clothes that would cover their full legs and arms – and also do not forget a hat with a good brim. In case you are unable to avoid the sun, apply a small number of sunscreens in the baby’s exposed area, such as the cheeks and back of the palms.

When, how, and where to apply sunscreen

For sunscreens to do their wonder, it should be applied correctly. Make sure to:

  • Use sunscreen whenever your babies are in the sun. For the utmost results, use sunscreen about 30-40 minutes before your babies go out.
  • Remember about hands, shoulds, feet, behind the neck, and ears. Just lift the suit straps and apply the cream underneath. You can also choose to protect their lips with SPF 30 lip balm.
  • Keep reapplying the sunscreen, every 2-3 hours, because after your baby sweats out, the cream usually comes off.
  • Use a water-resistant sunscreen if babies are often around swimming. Did you know that water happens to reflect and intensify the sun’s rays, hence babies need protection that would last longer? Water-resistant sunscreens usually last over 80 minutes in the water, and some areas well sweat-resistant. However, no matter what the water-resistant level is, make sure to reapply the sunscreen when your babies come out of the water.
  • Do not fret about making a bottle of sunscreen at home in the 11th hour. Remember to stock up and throw out the used-up ones.
