A model tells first-hand what it’s like to be at a Victoria's Secret casting
Bridget Malcolm will be on the runway with Victoria’s Secret for the first time this year.
I first started shooting for Victoria’s Secret in 2013, which was a dream come true in itself. My first major catalogue shoot was with Lily Aldridge – and I remember being completely in awe of how beautiful and sweet she was.
VS had had their eye on me for a while, but were waiting for me to grow in confidence and to get my body in shape. I had met most of the casting team before – John Pfieffer had cast me for previous fashion week shows, Sophie Neophitou had styled me, and Ed Razek I had met on a Victoria’s Secret set. I remember my first year casting for the VS show, I was shaking and could barely get a word out. However this year it was very different – I found it enjoyable! The casting team want you to do well and have fun with it, and I think many girls forget that in their nerves. So I went in there with the intention to enjoy myself and make them laugh, and I think I succeeded. I was still very nervous obviously, but this time it was manageable. Staying away from caffeine before helped a lot!

I was in a van with my fiancé [Nathaniel Hoho] and his band driving on tour between Utah and Colorado when I found out. The cell phone service kept dropping out between my manager and I; but she managed to get the news across. I was shaking and so beyond happy. I am so glad Nathaniel was there with me. He had seen the hard work I had put in for the past months, so to see me so beyond happy was amazing. Still now, nearly a week on, I can't believe it. I get little shivers every time I imagine walking the show.
From what my friends have told me, the show is going to be intense. There is a lot of energy and people backstage and I imagine I am going to be full of adrenaline for the duration of the show. I am just so excited to be able to get on a runway and smile! I have done shows for my entire modelling career and am used to stomping down the runway looking haughty – this time I can smile and pose and actually have fun with it. The fantastic thing about the show is that the models are just as important as the outfits, personality is crucial. I don’t really have any fears at this point – after all those weeks of intense workouts and a strict diet I feel like the hardest part is done with, now I get to really enjoy myself!
A good friend of mine Vita Sidorkina also got the show for the first time, so I am super excited to have her there for support! We are with the same agency and are both so excited. I also know fellow Aussie Shanina Shaik, who is amazing. I have also worked with a lot of the other girls through the VS family – and I have met Adriana through my trainer at Aerospace. So hopefully there won't be too many unfamiliar faces; and every single girl I have met has been absolutely amazing. and really lovely; which is nice!
