The good thing about a dinner date at home is that while it’s some work, you get to impress her in the comfort of your own home. Of course, you don’t want to do this date too early. Make sure that you only invite her home on a third date or later, even then only suggest it and let her decide.

But, while there are pros to having a dinner date, there are many cons as well and even more things which could go wrong. There are not a lot who will warn you on what to avoid. Setting the table- Now, while this may be the last thing on your mind, we don’t vote in favor of eating on your kitchen counter unless you have a villa. Set a quaint little table with a neatly ironed table cloth.

Next set plates for both, leave room for you to put the dishes on in case you’re not pre-serving food. Choose plain but elegant dishes and simple knives, forks or spoons, whatever cutlery fits best. Leave napkins and a single flower or even a candle would do for the centerpiece.

The food- Another thing to remember while preparing for a date is to avoid having messy food on such dates. Keep the portions simple and avoid gravy based food unless you know she’s very keen on binging.

Also, if you’re indeed cooking (Kudos!) and not ordering out, then cook all that you should before she arrives. Also, don’t bother about desserts, just have some ice-cream or make your own ice-cream cone.

Drinks- Now, this is important because we have seen a number of people ease out on dates only because of the drinks. Avoid offering her beer out of the fridge unless she asks for it because chances are she wanted an elegant night for a change.

 Offer her something you know she likes or have seen her order as a staple. Have no clue? Relax! Just have some champagne or wine on ice in a bucket nearby.

Décor- Dim the lights but do not make it shady or too dark. Have fairy lights or candles around, depending upon the weather. Use air freshener and make sure you have cleaned the house.
