A History of Teufel Motion Jewelry
Teufel Motion Jewelry is unlike any other jewelry in the world. Its uniqueness is captured in the name—motion. With the help of ball bearings and precision components, jewelry designed by Teufel features exquisite and delicate moving parts. From rings to earrings, pendants and bracelets, the smooth, effortless motion of these valuable items is something to behold. Most fine jewelry shoppers remember quite well the first time they see a piece of Teufel jewelry. At first, it looks like magic, or a trick of the eye: How can gold and diamonds move like that, so quiet, but so fast? The answer is in the expert craftsmanship, which takes decades to master.
Norman Teufel certainly had years to develop his trade. Hailing from a long line of artisanal jewelers, Teufel for many years was happy to create beautiful, but conventional, rings and pendants for the high-end market. In the late 1960's though, he had a spark of inspiration that would change his life (and livelihood) forever.
The first piece of Teufel Motion Jewelry ever created was the Swinger Ring. In 1971, Norman Teufel designed the Swinger Ring, never expecting the extraordinary success that followed. The ring was an instant hit, and demand for this innovative kind of jewelry surged. Norman Teufel, Inc. eventually became simply Teufel, Inc., and the production of motion jewelry went into “full swing” at his Beverly Hills home.
Awards for Teufel’s breathtaking new jewelry design were quickly forthcoming. In 1974, Teufel received his first of four Diamonds Today awards. A year later, he received the Diamond International Award from industry giant DeBeers. At the same time, sales were brisk and the company was in excellent health.
Despite his success, Normal Teufel understood that the jewelry business needed to stay in the family. Therefore, as early as 1970, he began working with his 14-year-old son Cameron. Gradually, Cameron became an important part of the Teufel Motion Ring organization. He learned all aspects of the business, from initial designing, to ultimate manufacture, and everything in between.
In 1991, Norman Teufel was pleased with his life’s work and saw fit to retire, passing the reins of the company over to his son. Cameron Teufel had been carefully groomed into the perfect heir to the Teufel legacy. Teufel, Inc. continues to manufacture its one-of-a-kind motion jewelry. With now more than 30 years of experience with motion jewelry, no other company comes close to producing what Teufel offers. There may be imitators, but there is only one Teufel Motion Jewelry.
