Most people know olive oil for its health benefits when used as cooking oil or for drizzling over food. However, it is equally beneficial for your body when used topically. These additional ways of olive oil use include hair and skin care. So how do you use this oil to enhance your hair and face?

Olive Oil for Hair Care
You can make olive hair oil an integral part of your life for regular hair care. It helps maintain your hair’s natural glow while also treating dandruff and split ends. You can also use it as a conditioner.
The following tips should help you use it properly for different purposes:

Hair Conditioner
You can use the oil as a conditioner using the following steps:
  • Start by using just a tablespoon of the oil
  • Massage it deep into the hair. If your scalp is dry, massage it on the scalp for a few minutes.
  • Use a shower cap to wrap the hair and leave for up to 20 minutes
  • Rinse your hair after applying shampoo and leave the hair to dry
It is recommended to use the oil as a hair conditioner once a week.
You should be using olive oil if you have thick hair or processed hair. It is also great for dry hair.

Treating Split Ends
You can use olive oil to smoothen split ends. It is recommended to apply the oil on the ends of the hair. Apply on the scalp and the entire length of the strands if you want to condition your hair.

Olive Oil for Face
The use of olive oil for face care goes back to thousands of years ago. It can also be considered as the earliest beauty product because of its use in ancient Greek and Egyptian civilizations. It was preferred for keeping the skin smooth, clear, and suppler.

There are different ways in which you can use the oil for facial care.
  • Cleansing: Olive oil is perfect for cleansing your skin. It works by dissolving the oil and dirt on the skin’s surface. Since the oil is non-comedogenic, it doesn’t clog the skin pores. This means it can be used for all types of skins.
  • Makeup Removal: Due to its dissolving properties, the oil can also be used for removing makeup. It is recommended to add some lemon juice to make a strong solution to prevent acne. You can also add aloe vera water for additional hydration. Olive oil is far better than chemical makeup removers because it is not abrasive.
  • Skin Exfoliant: The best olive oil for skin can also be used to prepare excellent exfoliant. It is recommended to mix it with sugar or sea salt. Take a tablespoon of the oil and mix with half teaspoon of sugar or salt. Apply it on your face before rinsing with warm water.
  • Treating Acne: As already mentioned olive oil also helps in preventing or treating acne. This is due to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Reducing Wrinkles: You can also use the oil to reduce any wrinkles on your face. Dab the skin area with the oil before going to bed or in the morning. You can keep it in the refrigerator to make it thicker and creamy.

There are many more olive oil use. It can be used as a moisturizer, for creating mask, and to fade scars. The oil is rich in different types of antioxidants, especially polyphenols. These antioxidants provide it with skin-protective properties. Thus, regular use of olive oil keeps your skin health and protected from a wide range of conditions.
