Caught up in the fast paced life of the city, lengthy working hours and tedious commuting, many people find it hard to make time for buying groceries by visiting retail stores or supermarkets. However, the problems of time and energy are thus gradually being resolved by online grocery stores. Consumers now feel comfortable while ordering vegetables, fruits, breakfast food items, personal care products, etc. over the internet.

The introduction of online grocery store in Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai and several other regions in India has reduced the trouble of selecting grocery items by eliminating the need to visit physical stores. Theoretically speaking, it allows buyers to purchase things more quickly, especially when trip to a mortar grocery shop is not possible due to unavoidable circumstances. It also has a very high potential of removing drudgery for those people who usually make dull, pantry-stocking and fill-in trips. One neither requires to leave their house nor carry bulky bags and climb several flights of stairs. There is even no need to wait in long queues or go through parking hassles. In short, the perks of making purchases from online grocery stores include convenience, budget buying and accessibility. It can literally put an end to impulse buying and allow customers to know the exact amount they would be spending before checking out.

One thing that researchers have found quite interesting within the context of online grocery shopping is that around 6 percent of consumers use click and collect services. Most of them do so along with selection of the home delivery option. Besides that, mobile devices have also had a substantial impact on expansion of the online grocery industry. Surveys claim that around half of the shoppers use a mobile phone or tablet at some point of their purchases.

At the rate by which online grocery industry is growing, it is estimated to expand by leaps and bounds annually and can become an industry worth multiple crores in India within a few years. Some consumers are of the opinion that buying things over the Internet is kind of risky, as one can end up purchasing unsafe or expired products. However, many digital grocery vendors are gaining the confidence of their clients by compensating for  subpar products or items damaged during shipment. They also make sure that their clients receive fresh and good quality products all the time. Quite often, they even offer regular goods at discounted rates, a strategy that has upped the number of consumers significantly.
