Electric vehicles are gathering pace. Many countries are investing millions of dollars in running a manufacturing unit for electric cars. While they are yet to flood the roads, they are assumed to be much better than fuel cars as they do not emit greenhouse gases. Many countries are planning to ramp up the production of electric cars as they want to say goodbye to fuel cars in a couple of years. Unfortunately, things are not as easy as they seem.

Electric cars are being embraced to bypass fuel cars, but there are so many things that require great planning and organising. Although electric vehicles have gained momentum recently, fuel vehicles offer several advantages that make them a practical choice for many drivers in Ireland. From faster refuelling to long-distance compatibility and from upfront cost to widespread infrastructure, electric vehicles do not hold a candle to fuel vehicles. They will always be the best choice until electric vehicles become top players in providing convenience and performance.

Why fuel vehicles are still a preferable option in 2025

This blog discusses some crucial reasons why fuel vehicles are still preferable options in 2025:

A lack of charging infrastructure

Making electric cars is one thing, and establishing their large network on roads is another. Electric vehicles need charging stations. Although the investment in charging infrastructure has recently increased significantly, it is still lagging behind. Major towns and cities are still struggling to have a proper charging infrastructure. While these cars could be charged at home, a separate charging point in a garage will have to be installed that aligns with the car’s battery.

It is impossible to take electric cars on long routes that include rural areas. A lack of charging stations will make a long journey very complicated. There are some fast-charging facilities, but they are limited. Nothing fruitful.

Petrol stations, on the other hand, provide convenience. Whether you are driving in rural areas or urban cities, you will never have to struggle to find one. Compared to electric vehicles, fuel vehicles will continue to be used for a couple of years longer, thanks to the easy availability of fuel.

Affordability

Affordability is the primary factor that people pay heed to while choosing an electric car. Even after a fully developed infrastructure, this will be the biggest concern among people. As compared to fuel cars, electric cars are quite expensive. You might decide to take out the cheapest car loans in Ireland, but do not forget that you are supposed to make an upfront payment. This will certainly be larger than fuel cars because of their high market prices. Further, you will end up paying a lot of money in interest due to a larger debt size.

Compared to electric cars, fuel cars are much cheaper. You will probably pay twice the amount if you purchase a battery-powered car. Another good thing about petrol and diesel cars is that old cars are also available. You can purchase them at lower prices. Since their market price is lower, you do not feel down payment as burdensome.

A lack of electric vehicle range

While there are many different models of fuel cars, electric cars come in a very limited range. Buyers do not have enough choices to pick from. Fuel cars provide various models, and hence people can choose the one that meets their budget. Unfortunately, this scenario is not available with electric cars.

As a matter of fact, fuel cars also provide a wide range of used cars. You have full freedom and flexibility to choose between a second-hand car and a new car.

Technology and reliability

Combustion engine technology is used all fuel cars. This technology is several decades old. Over a period of time, this has been refined to win the trust of users. Other than this, people have also become accustomed to this technology. Of course, if you have been using the same technology for a long period of time without any complaint, you will hesitate to replace it with something else that has yet to be developed.

Electric cars, by contrast, are still developing. The technology they bring with them has not won the trust of billions of people. There are several concerns about these cars’ durability and reliability. Many people are unable to make a decision because they cannot trust a battery’s performance.

Whether batteries last long, what their life is, what about the engine performance are some doubts that everyone wants to get resolved. They do not offer the same level of peace of mind that fuel cars offer. For instance, you can refill your tank as and when you need. It takes a couple of minutes.

  • But what if your battery-powered cars run out of battery in the middle of the road?
  • How would you find a charging station? How would you travel to it if it were far?
  • How much time do you need to wait to have your car charged?

There are several questions that have to be answered yet.

Transition period

Establishing a large network of electric vehicles across the board is a gradual process. It includes consumer mind-set changes, infrastructure development and technological advancement. It cannot happen overnight. It will take years to completely replace fuel vehicles with battery-powered cars. Uncertainties are associated with electric cars.

It is not just about the infrastructure they are worried about, but they are also worried about a shift in insurance policies and a change in the best car finance deals in Ireland. All these uncertainties also make fuel vehicles still the best choice in 2025.

The final word

There is no doubt that electric cars are gaining momentum in Ireland. The idea is to replace fuel vehicles with electric ones in order to curb pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, but it will take a very long time to execute it. Infrastructure for electric vehicles sis yet to be developed.

In spite of that, people might have concerns and doubts related to electric cars. Unless all those doubts are quashed, it will be difficult for people to shift their mind-set from fuel cars to battery-powered ones.
