Step 1: Update the QuickBooks Desktop

  • Open the QuickBooks Desktop > Help 

  • Choose Update QuickBooks Desktop

  • Under the Update QuickBooks Desktop > choose Update Now

  • Select “Reset Update” to eliminate previous versions.

  • Choose Get Updates and start the download.

  • After the download is done, restart QuickBooks Desktop and install the update.

  • Undergo all the terms and conditions to complete the installation.

  • Once the installation is done, QuickBooks will open.

Step 2: Use the QuickBooks File Doctor 

The QuickBooks File Doctor tool can fix this standard file for the network issues caused by this error.

  • On the official QuickBooks website, download the QB Tool Hub.

  • Install the QuickBooks Tool Hub.

  • After installing, open the QuickBooks Tool Hub, then select Company File Issues.

  • Then you must click on Run QuickBooks File Doctor and wait until the tool opens.

  • Select the company file that needs to be diagnosed and hit Next.

  • Enter the credentials and log in to the company file.

  • Select the repair you want to undergo, like “File and Network Connectivity”.

  • Click on Next and wait for the system to repair it.

  • Once the repair is done, quit the QuickBooks File Doctor.

  • Restart QuickBooks Desktop.

Step 3: Copy the QB file to the Desktop

Users need to make a copy of the file on the desktop to create a backup or use it outside the QB Desktop. Here are the steps to do so.

  • Select the company file you need to copy.

  • Select the File menu, then choose Close Company/Logoff

  • Choose the File menu and select Quit QuickBooks

  • Find the company file in your system by using Windows File Explorer.

  • Copy the company file by right-clicking on it.

  • Minimize all the windows running in the background.

  • Right-click on the empty screen and select Paste.

You’ll find a copy of your company file on the desktop. 

Step 4: Include .OLD extension to .TLG and .ND Files

You might encounter an issue accessing the ND and TLG files because they are corrupt. Include .OLD extension to all the .TLG and .ND Files.

  • Close all the QuickBooks tabs if opened.

  • Open the folder with the QuickBooks files.

  • Once you open the folder, find the files with the extension .ND and .TLG

  • Right-click on the files and select rename.

  • Attach .OLD to the extensions after .ND and .TLG

  • Launch the QB Desktop and open the company file.

Step 5: Run the QuickBooks Database Server Manager

When using the company file in multi-user mode, some programs must be opened on the server's central computer, one of which is QuickBooks Database Server Manager. 

If the QBDBMgeN is not running on the central server computer, users working in the workstation may face error code 6087, 0. 


  • On the central server computer, open QuickBooks Tool Hub.

  • Select Network Issues > QuickBooks Database Server Manager.

  • After opening the QBDBMgrN  > Scan Files.

  • After opening the Scan Files tab, check if the path of the company file shows up on the list.

  • If it doesn’t, browse and navigate to the file's location.

  • Then, Start the Scan.

Step 6: Launch QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool

The Windows registry, Microsoft components, and program files can be fixed using the QB Install Diagnostic Tool. Here are the steps to access the QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool.

  • Run QuickBooks Tool Hub and select Install Issues.

  • Select QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool.

The tool will take some time to appear, and around 15 minutes to finish running. Once the repair is done, run QuickBooks Desktop and try to access the company file.

Step 7: Verify Windows Firewall and Internet Security Settings

QuickBooks needs firewall permissions to access the company files over the network. So, you must verify the Firewall Settings.

Also, check the antivirus and security settings to ensure QuickBooks has all the essential permissions for a safe and secure run. Here are the steps to do so.

  • Access the Start menu.

  • Search for Windows Firewall in the search bar and run it.

  • Choose Advanced Settings.

  • Right-click Inbound rules, then choose New Rule.

  • Choose Port > Next.

  • Ensure the TCP is selected.

  • In the specific local ports, enter the QuickBooks year version:

  1. QuickBooks Desktop 2020 and later: 8019, XXXXX

  2. QuickBooks Desktop 2019: 8019, XXXXX
